In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Not Spicy, Ginger Caramel Tea
Upon opening the can, you can smell not only the pungent ginger scent but also the refreshing aroma of tea leaves.
When you take a sip, the ginger spiciness is minimal, and the sweet caramel-like flavor and refreshing tea leaf notes spread across your palate. The ginger is really just an accent, and although it's marketed as ginger tea, the ginger flavor is too weak and the caramel dominates, which might be a bit off-putting.
What stands out is the strength of the caramel. A more natural and subtle flavor might appeal more to the target audience of organic energy drink consumers.
Also, many people who are drawn to ginger flavors might expect more of a kick, so those looking for a spicy ginger drink might feel let down by Scheckter’s more subdued flavor. Personally, I find it easier to drink when it’s not too spicy. (^_^;)
SCHECKTER’S ORGANIC ENERGY GINGER's Energy Ingredients
Contains 80mg of caffeine. Other ingredients include guarana, green tea, ginger, oolong tea, caramel sugar, coffee, and ginseng.
SCHECKTER’S ORGANIC ENERGY GINGER's Design
The can features a cork or woodchip-like design with a large, white "O" for organic, giving it a simple and straightforward look.
While the orange color clearly represents the ginger flavor, the design feels a bit too simple and may leave you wanting more. Given the price point (over 300 yen in Japan), a more upscale design might have been a better fit.
