In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of ARMA ENERGY
Upon opening, a sweet and tangy refreshing classic aroma mixes with a chemical scent.
The color is a typical yellow. Based on the color and the usual scent, you can already predict this won't be a particularly unique energy drink.
However, to my surprise, the taste is unexpectedly smooth. Despite being a vitamin-flavored drink, it doesn't leave a lingering aftertaste, and the stimulation is mild with a refreshing taste.
The sweet and refreshing flavor is surprisingly enjoyable, and the chemical flavor is well-moderated, making it an easy-to-drink vitamin-based carbonated beverage. The usual sourness and bite typical of chemical vitamin flavors are kept to a minimum, and the aftertaste isn't lingering at all. It was completely different from what I had anticipated.
Those who enjoy the strong taste or sharpness of vitamin drinks might find it disappointing, but I think it will appeal to others. Personally, I find it quite good.
Energy Ingredients of ARMA ENERGY
With 160mg of caffeine, it’s fairly standard. Other ingredients include 2000mg of taurine, 400mg of guarana, 50mg of carnitine, 50mg of glutamine, and 50mg of ginseng.
The energy ingredients are comparable to those of other competing brands. The addition of glutamine is a bit unusual. While it’s in a very small amount and doesn’t make much of an impact, it might have been included deliberately, given the brand's background in supplements.
Design of ARMA ENERGY
ARMA Energy Drink seems to have been mainly sponsored by the motorcycle industry, but for some reason, the can features numerous military-themed illustrations, which might be related to the product name.
To be honest, even when I first saw it in stores, I thought the design was a bit off, and after reviewing it, I still feel the same.
The black, yellow, and white combination looks great, but the military silhouette seems to target an unclear audience... It might have been a bit too much (^_^;) The drink disappeared from store shelves about three years after its release.
That said, the ARMA brand continues as ARMA SPORTS, a supplement company, and they have released some excellent designs without unnecessary military themes.
I expect ARMA ENERGY might make a comeback as part of the fitness energy drink trend in the U.S. starting in 2019.
