It's a bit scary to open a can that’s been inflated with age.

When poured into a glass, despite its age, the carbonation remains strong. The cloudy, tea-like energy drink has a bright orange hue and effervescent bubbles... It's a prime example of the "unpalatable" products that were common during the energy drink boom, haha!

Taking a sip, the flavor is a soft blend between black tea and yerba mate, with the taste of tea leaves spreading across your mouth and into your nose. There’s also a refreshing, cranberry-like sweet-sour taste, and a distinct, refreshing bitterness of tea in the aftertaste. Surprisingly, the carbonation isn’t very strong; it’s almost like a flat drink. Despite expectations, this doesn't have that unpalatable flavor at all.

With a name like "Asian Experience," which suggests some exotic flavor, I expected something much stranger, but it turned out to be a completely drinkable tea-flavored energy drink. It’s interesting to taste such products from a different time; it's like looking back at the energy drink scene from back then and experiencing it anew.

Energy Ingredients of LIGHTNING BOLT ASIAN EXPERIENCE

Though the exact ingredient amounts aren’t listed, it's stated that Steven Seagal developed this with a brand-new herbal blend. However, since there's no mention of caffeine content, I regretfully have to categorize it as having zero caffeine for the rankings (ヽ´ω`).

The contents include natural caffeine, guarana, green tea extract, goji berries, cordyceps, yerba mate, American ginseng, and ginkgo biloba. Interestingly, LIGHTNING BOLT was the first energy drink in the world to include cordyceps. Back in 2005 or 2006, it was rare to see a product with this ingredient. It’s also notable for featuring the superfood goji berries.

Such a Dorky Can Design

To be honest, my first impression was, "Who would buy this after seeing this design?" During Japan’s energy drink boom, I often felt obliged to buy drinks just for reviewing purposes, and this Steven Seagal energy drink was no exception, haha.

The use of kanji, the color scheme, the Lightning Bolt logo, and the random inclusion of his face made it all feel so B-grade. If I were Seagal, I’d be too embarrassed to let this be released!

Turns out, Steven Seagal made a very enthusiastic commercial for it!

Considering this came out during the peak of the "chuunibyou" energy drink craze in 2005, it's actually quite fun to experience just how over-the-top it is. Plus, this product was produced for about four years, which is quite an accomplishment in the energy drink world. Many products from Japan's energy drink boom didn't even last a year, so this is impressive.
