In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of VEGASFUEL
I wasn’t expecting much from the packaging design, but when I poured it into a glass, the color inside was a strong acerola red, and surprisingly, it paired quite well with the black can. The scent is citrus punch.
It has a fruit flavor, like a mix of acerola, pink grapefruit, and cherry. The sweetness is subtle, with a citrus-forward fruit punch taste. The strong acidity in this fruit flavor makes it quite rich, and it’s very satisfying.
Energy Ingredients of VEGASFUEL
The energy ingredients are surprisingly solid.
With 142mg of caffeine, 1904mg of taurine, 96mg of ginseng, and 96mg of guarana, it’s packed with the usual energy drink ingredients.
It’s not that they went out of their way to mix these ingredients; it’s just a normal blend you’d expect in a product like this. If a drink doesn’t include this level of energy ingredients, you can probably assume it's not made with much care.
Design of VEGASFUEL
When I first saw the packaging, the red circle resembling the Japanese flag made it seem a bit suspicious—perhaps that’s just the feeling of a Japanese person.
If the design were different, it might be more approachable...
Apparently, the red circle wasn’t meant to represent the Japanese flag but is inspired by the spotlight you’d see in a Las Vegas show. The red color is probably meant to reflect the drink's contents.
Looking at the various promotions for VEGASFUEL, it really feels like it’s made by a small, personal company. The design might have been created by the founder themselves or a friend.
Still, it’s amazing that they created the energy drink they wanted and turned their dream into reality.
This is a video from the creative director of VEGASFUEL, a guy who always posts strange videos.
But, it seems like they’ve expanded distribution to RITE AID (a drugstore chain) and GNC (a supplement chain for fitness), so there’s a chance they’re taking their work seriously (I’m praising them).
