In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of VEGASFUEL Sugar Free
I was wondering what the sugar-free version would taste like ((o(´∀`)o)), and it turned out to be almost identical to the original (´・ω・`). The sweetener has been replaced with a low-calorie artificial sweetener, so it has just a different flavor, but the strong acidity remains, and the flavors of acerola and cherry are still quite strong. The fact that there’s hardly any change almost feels like they didn’t put much effort into it.
Energy Ingredients of VEGASFUEL Sugar Free
The energy ingredients are exactly the same as the original VEGASFUEL, with the calories reduced to just 10kcal, and the sugar content has been eliminated. Caffeine is 142mg, which is the same as Japan’s Monster Energy. It also contains 1904mg of taurine, 96mg of ginseng, and 96mg of guarana. The energy ingredients are standard.
What’s impressive about this sugar-free energy drink is how the taste is almost identical to the original.
Especially with the citrus punch flavor, it doesn't emphasize sweetness or a sweet aroma as the main flavors, so the difference from the original isn’t seen as “bad” or “worse.” Instead, it often feels like “this one’s actually not bad, either.”
Design of VEGASFUEL Sugar Free
It seems like the iconic director of VEGASFUEL might have designed this, as there’s a message for the fans. While it’s not that big of a joke, personally, I think the design is more striking, with a clear contrast against the white background, and overall, the sugar-free version looks much better. The red accents stand out, and the logo is appropriately placed all over the can.
The black original one gives off a bit of a cheap vibe (;´∀`).
Although GNC stores are around, VEGASFUEL itself is not that common, so you might not see this energy drink often. However, it’s got a strong taste, and the ingredients are satisfactory. If you get the chance, try one. You’ll realize that even lesser-known energy drinks can surprise you with how good they are.
