In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Gas Monkey ENERGY DRINK Light
The color might suggest a classic flavor, but it actually has a fruity aroma.
When I take a sip, I get a clean and refreshing fruit flavor with no off-taste. It features the sweet and tangy notes of plum combined with a crisp green apple-like taste. The fruity sensation is so strong that it’s hard to believe this is a zero-sugar drink. This is delicious! (๑´ڡ`๑)
There’s almost no unpleasant artificial sweetener aftertaste, which really surprised me. Naturally, it lacks the heaviness of a full-sugar drink, but this lightness actually enhances the apple flavor, making it a remarkably high-quality fruity drink.
What I personally liked the most is that the chemical-like off-taste present in the full-sugar version is completely gone. The Light version eliminates that artificial note entirely. It’s not just a zero-sugar version of the original Gas Monkey—it stands as a great drink on its own. Honestly, I prefer Light over the original. Highly recommended!
Energy Ingredients of Gas Monkey ENERGY DRINK Light

Design of Gas Monkey ENERGY DRINK Light
The can has a mirror-like silver finish, making it easy to recognize as a zero-sugar drink. But that monkey is scary and creepy! Σ(´∀`;)
The silver design itself feels a bit cheap, which is a downside. While it clearly signals a zero-sugar or low-calorie drink to anyone who sees it, I feel like they could have put a little more effort into the design.
That being said, the taste is so good that you wouldn't believe it's zero sugar. I’m also glad that the original Gas Monkey wasn’t a typical classic energy drink flavor. The design might feel a bit low-budget, but the taste more than makes up for it.
The tab is green. It used to be a silver tab but was later switched to a colored one.
