In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of hi ball ENERGY vanilla
Opening the can releases a sweet and rich vanilla scent. It's surprising to think that what I'm about to drink is sparkling water...
When I take a sip, it’s slightly bitter sparkling water. There shouldn't be any flavor, so perhaps the bitterness from caffeine or other ingredients is influencing the taste? When I drink regular sparkling water, this bitterness seems to imply that it has flavor. It’s different from the taste of soft or hard water. Personally, I find it unpleasant... (^_^;)
Although no vanilla flavor is added, the sweet vanilla-like aroma might trick you into thinking you're tasting it. However, there’s actually no sweetness.
The scent is very strong, so it seems best to chill it well and add plenty of ice to minimize the bitterness. But with this sweet aroma and the flavor of water, I think I’d rather just have a regular sweet drink with sugar and milk. It's hard to find the motivation to drink vanilla sparkling water... (ヽ´ω`)
Energy Components of hi ball ENERGY vanilla
Contains organic caffeine (160mg), organic ginseng (50mg), and organic guarana (50mg). A zero-sugar, zero-calorie sparkling energy drink.
Design of hi ball ENERGY vanilla
The white can features brown hues reminiscent of vanilla. It’s a design that doesn’t immediately scream "energy drink."
Hi ball energy drinks are typically not found in convenience stores or regular supermarkets, but are often stocked in organic supermarkets. The target audience is not junk food lovers who usually drink energy drinks, but people with an organic lifestyle, so this simple and clean color scheme might be just right.
Since this design was introduced in 2015 and has undergone only slight changes up until 2020, it seems to have been well received.
