In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Taste of HOT6 Energy Drink - Grapefruit
When opened, a rich and refreshing grapefruit aroma bursts out. I personally love the strong fragrance of grapefruit flavor.
The liquid itself wasn’t yellow but had the color of pink grapefruit, which made me expect a rich flavor.
The taste is mainly sweet with little bitterness or acidity from the grapefruit, and it leaves a slight residue in your mouth. It’s more like a rich, carbonated grapefruit aid than a realistic grapefruit flavor.
While the scent is excellent, the taste doesn’t deliver the refreshing fruitiness of real grapefruit. If you’re expecting a fruit-forward drink, it may be a bit disappointing.
My recommendation is to add plenty of ice and drink it ice-cold. The flavor becomes fresher, and the juicy pink grapefruit scent remains, which takes the drink to the next level.
Energy Ingredients of HOT6 Grapefruit
It contains 60mg of caffeine and 1000mg of taurine, making it a simple formula.
The juice content is 8%, but you won’t really feel much of a fruitiness. Considering HOT6’s grapefruit flavor, it might actually be better if it had no fruit juice at all, much like the Red Bull editions, as it would likely offer better long-term stability.
Design of HOT6 Grapefruit
The front shows “HOT6” in Hangul, while the back has “HOT6” in English.
HOT6 is expanding its overseas presence, and in international markets, the brand name "HOT6" appears prominently on the front.
Here’s an example from Russia, where only the flavor name is in Cyrillic.
It’s not just an import; each country produces its own version, which is a fun element for energy drink enthusiasts to appreciate.
The silver top and tab look a bit plain, but this is typical of HOT6 in all markets, not just in Korea.
Starting from 2019, the "KING" series was launched with colored tabs, so it would be exciting if the regular line followed suit with this trend.
In 2019, Halloween-themed cans were released, with both the original and grapefruit flavor versions.
I’ve tried several, and I found that chilling it with ice helps soften the artificial flavor, letting you enjoy the essence of pink grapefruit more.
The Halloween cans even have a Halloween-themed barcode. It’s great to see energy drink brands embracing these fun, seasonal designs, as it gives consumers a chance to enjoy limited-edition designs.
