In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of KAMIKAZE ENERGY Rainbow Gummy
When opened, a subtly sweet fruit candy-like aroma spreads. The scent is soft and not overpowering, much like the gentle color of the drink. The old Rainbow Gummy, which was a bright gold, has now changed to red. Let's take a sip.
Upon tasting, there's a mild sweetness with a candy-like gummy flavor, reminiscent of acerola with a hint of apple. The carbonation is so light that it almost feels like a still drink, adding to the gummy experience.
Despite being sugar-free, there is minimal taste of artificial sweeteners, and it's relatively easy to drink with no lingering aftertaste.
The scent is not too strong, and it fades away cleanly after drinking. The mild carbonation and lightness of the drink make it feel more like a refreshing hydration drink than a sugary snack, which I personally liked.
The artificial powdery taste that can sometimes be found in energy drinks made by American supplement brands is also minimal, making it ideal for a pre-workout energy drink.
Energy Ingredients in KAMIKAZE ENERGY Rainbow Gummy
Contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 2000mg of citrulline for pump, 1000mg of beta-alanine for endurance, and 300mg of tyrosine for brain function.
Design of KAMIKAZE ENERGY Rainbow Gummy
The design features a matte texture with a gradient from soft light blue to pink, with pink fonts at the top of the can, creating a cotton candy feel.
The white "KAMIKAZE ENERGY" brand logo is glossy.
Behind it, the kanji for "神風" is included, with colorful bears covering the design. If you look closely, you can spot various bears with different expressions, which adds an interesting touch.
It might have been nice if the colorful bears had covered the entire can, even inside the "神風" logo.
The flavor name section features a playful gummy bear.
The back of the can is filled with a lot of product concept-related information.
Despite the large amount of text information, the use of consistent colors and font sizes makes it surprisingly easy to read. This is a typical feature of recent supplement brands.
Comparison of New and Old Rainbow Gummy Designs
When I went to Australia in 2023, the old design from the November 2022 release was still being sold.
On the left is the new design, and on the right is the old design. The old design has a darker and somewhat heavier feel, giving off an impression of being powerful and effective.
There was no change to the overall design, such as the KAMIKAZE ENERGY logo or the background "神風" silhouette. It feels like the new design simply refreshes the overall image.
The back of the can has some differences, with the citrulline icon being replaced by tyrosine.
However, there was no change to the ingredient composition between the two designs, just a switch in the prominent ingredients. It could be argued that citrulline fits better with the dumbbell icon than tyrosine.
The old design had "Original" written at the bottom with a possible misprinted 16FL OZ. The new design changed this to "Sports Series" and the volume is now listed as 17FL OZ, equivalent to 500ml.
When released in November 2022, the three flavors were packaged in black cans.
The black design had a cool, matte texture typical of fitness supplement brands, with the vibrant color of the flavor illustrations standing out. However, the monochromatic nature of the cans made it difficult to quickly distinguish the flavors.
It seems that, as the number of flavors increased, the black cans reached their limit. Later, more colorful designs were introduced, and the old designs of the flavors were also given a facelift.
Perhaps due to high prices, the old design remained in store inventory for a while even in late 2023. Which design do you prefer?
