In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of KICKSTART HYDRATING BOOST WATERMELON
When opened, a strong sweet watermelon aroma immediately bursts out, with just a slight hint of the typical grassy note that watermelon flavor sometimes has. When poured into a glass, it has a bright red color. The bright pinkish cloudiness feels just like watermelon, and it makes you expect a refreshing, sweet taste of fruit (*´∀`*)
Now, let's try it.
This is perfection in capturing the deliciousness of watermelon without losing its essence! The sweetness is moderate, but you can clearly taste and smell the watermelon, and it’s not too light; the aftertaste lingers just enough to make it satisfying. I believe it’s the inclusion of coconut water that boosts the overall flavor satisfaction.
I’ve tried several other flavors in the Hydrating Boost series and hadn’t been impressed, but this watermelon flavor genuinely surprised me.
One of the Best Watermelon Flavors in the World
Around 2015, there was a watermelon flavor trend worldwide, with energy drink brands like Monster Energy, Rockstar, Big Shock, and more offering their versions.
I’ve tried and compared the watermelon flavors from each brand that came out that year. People and countries might have different preferences when it comes to what they want from a watermelon flavor, so it’s hard to say which is the best, but I believe Kickstart’s watermelon is one of the top contenders for the most delicious.
Energy Ingredients of KICKSTART HYDRATING BOOST WATERMELON
It contains 68mg of caffeine. There are no additional energy ingredients included.
I wish Kickstart would be a little more inventive with the energy ingredients. Most of their flavors just have a little caffeine, and it leaves you wanting more.
Design of KICKSTART HYDRATING BOOST WATERMELON
I was wondering why the can was yellow-green for watermelon, but then it clicked when I poured it into the glass – the can represents the skin of the watermelon, and the red inside comes out when poured. This kind of design works, doesn’t it?
The Hydrating Boost series, with coconut water, has a white base can with each color of the flavor. I feel like it’s not as impactful as an energy drink design, though.
The tab is the same yellow-green as the can.
The can color doesn’t really evoke watermelon, so it feels a bit wasteful. Maybe they avoided using red to distinguish it from the other Kickstart flavors that are mostly red.
Later, the watermelon flavor was not included when the series expanded to 473ml and became a regular lineup. It's a shame since the flavor was really good.
