KICKSTART LIMEADE

Posted on August 27, 2014 | Last updated February 16, 2025

KICKSTART LIMEADE
This is a review of KICKSTART LIMEADE, part of the new energy drink series from Mountain Dew called KICKSTART.

It seems that there isn’t a central "original" product in the KICKSTART series, but based on official promotional images, KICKSTART LIMEADE appears to be the flagship product of the series.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of KICKSTART LIMEADE

KICKSTART, a newly released product in Mountain Dew's energy drink line, might seem like a similar product at first, but it's actually very different.

KICKSTART LIMEADE
First of all, the color is a subtle lime green that shines. There's no typical deep color associated with energy drinks. The scent is not overpowering, with a refreshing citrus vibe. It’s a bit different from the impression given by the can packaging.

As for the taste, the lime flavor is very mild, with a stronger sweetness. It’s the perfect balance for a limeade. If it were too sour, it would feel more like a lime or sparkling lime, which would be fine too. Since it's called "limeade," the sweetness from sugar is a fitting element.

On the other hand, despite the can’s design, there’s almost no strong or sharp flavor. It’s meant to be like a Mountain Dew with a fruity touch, and I think it’s successfully turned into a proper limeade. The aftertaste, however, leaves a bit of the typical Mountain Dew kick and aroma, providing a satisfying drinking experience.

Energy Ingredients of KICKSTART LIMEADE

KICKSTART, released by PepsiCo, is positioned as a sister energy drink to AMP, and its energy components feel a bit more modest. With only 92mg of caffeine, it might feel slightly lacking for this size. Other than that, there aren’t any notable energy ingredients in it. There’s 5% fruit juice, and it seems like fruit juice is added a bit throughout the series.

KICKSTART LIMEADE
While the taste is good, the ingredients fall short of what you’d expect from a typical energy drink.

By the way, the KICKSTART website is pretty cool, so definitely check it out sometime.
