In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of KIIVA Boost
When opened, a refreshing scent with a hint of chemical notes is present. The color of the liquid is a bright, slightly cloudy champagne color. Could it be similar to the original KIIVA flavor?
When I take a sip, I get a light sweetness like apple, followed by a refreshing muscat-like aftertaste, with a chemical fruit flavor lingering as an aftertaste.
The energy ingredients are concentrated into the 250ml size based on the original KIIVA flavor. However, the taste is not richer than the 500ml version; rather, it feels light and refreshing.
The chemical flavor is not overwhelming, so it's not a strong medicinal taste. Additionally, while the fruit flavor is present, it doesn't replicate a distinct real fruit taste, making it hard to describe the flavor...
If you imagine a refreshing chemical fruit candy flavor, you'll have a better sense of the taste. Contrary to what you might expect from the name "KIIVA Boost," the flavor and ingredients feel slightly different from a typical energy drink.
Both the taste and aroma are crisp and light, so you'll likely finish the 250ml size quickly.
Energy Ingredients of KIIVA Boost
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 112.5mg of guarana, 312.5mg of arginine, and 50mg of ginseng.
The 250ml mini-size packs a high dose of caffeine. In Japan, energy drinks with 160mg of caffeine in 250ml cans have been increasingly available, especially in private brand products. It's important to be cautious about overconsumption, especially with caffeine-containing drinks, including those outside the energy drink category.
Design of KIIVA Boost
The sharp silhouette and colorful, pop impression are a common design for KIIVA, created by Tommy Rim.
At the top of the can, the main energy ingredients are listed in small print.
On the back, there's an energetic poem with a touch of "chuunibyou" (a term for over-the-top, dramatic style). The flavor of KIIVA Boost feels more subdued, so the phrase "pursue punchiness" might seem a bit mismatched.
I thought "深化" (deepening) might be a typo, but it's used correctly at the end of the poem, so it seems to fit. The poem encourages you to seek deeper layers and take a different path from others.
