In 2020, KIIVA's alcoholic product "KIIVA ENERGY VODKA" was renewed. The package design, ingredient composition, and even the taste have slightly changed. Since it has been updated, I will refer to the previous KIIVA ENERGY VODKA as "Old KIIVA ENERGY VODKA" and will review the current version as the present KIIVA ENERGY VODKA.

Fruitier and Even Easier to Drink Energy Vodka than Its Predecessor

The color is the same clear pink as the previous version, but the scent has become fruitier, and the artificial floral notes of the previous version seem to have mellowed.

When you taste it, the vodka flavor is more subdued, and you get a sweet and tangy taste reminiscent of cranberry or strawberry. Has the flavor changed from the previous version!? The artificial flavors are greatly reduced, and the vodka taste seems more mellow.

The current KIIVA ENERGY VODKA is much easier to drink and has a taste similar to general canned cocktails. The alcohol content is 5%, which is standard, but when drinking, it feels lighter, about 1-2% less.

The so-called "energy drink-ness" isn’t necessary. I believe that if a product is easy to drink, delicious, and attractive, that’s the best, and I think the 2020 version of KIIVA ENERGY VODKA has a more universally appealing flavor than its predecessor.

Energy Ingredients of KIIVA ENERGY VODKA

It contains zero caffeine, 80.5mg of arginine, and 78mg of guarana. Compared to the previous version with 437mg of arginine and 315mg of guarana, these amounts seem significantly lower.

For alcoholic energy drinks, I think the amounts of these ingredients are more of a bonus, so I don't pay much attention to them. What matters more is the taste, and honestly, a small amount of these ingredients doesn’t necessarily give any noticeable effect.

Also, calorie and carbohydrate content seems to be more modest compared to the previous version. It feels like the taste has simply been improved.

Design of KIIVA ENERGY VODKA

The design has been revamped with Tommy Lim’s design in blue, red, and white. In 2020, all KIIVA products adopted Tommy Lim’s design, transforming into a vibrant and impactful design.

Personally, this is my favorite design out of all the KIIVA products. In Japan, it’s rare to see such a striking design on an energy drink.

However, it’s a shame that you can’t imagine the flavor from the combination of blue, red, and white. With regular chuhai or cocktail products, you know the flavor from the shelf and are enticed to buy, but with KIIVA ENERGY VODKA, it’s hard to guess the flavor. I think it would be easier for the general public to buy it if the flavor were written on the can.
