Flavor of KiiVA Energy Drink

When poured into a glass, it surprisingly has a transparent, soft pink color. Considering the large 500ml size and the can design, the color was a bit different from what I expected. I thought it would be more intense in color.

When drinking, the scent isn’t very strong, and the flavor is a mix of cherry with a subtle acidity and strawberry with a mild sweetness and fragrance. It has a light carbonation and isn’t overly stimulating, so the taste is exactly what you might imagine from its pink color.

There’s a slight tartness in the aftertaste, and a faint perfume-like fragrance appears that wasn’t noticeable before drinking. People who are sensitive to perfume-like scents may notice an artificial aftertaste. Aside from the fragrance, the taste isn’t too weak or too strong, maintaining a steady sweetness while being easy to drink.

No matter the flavor, energy drinks that come in 500ml can sometimes get tiring if the taste is too weak or too strong, but with KiiVA, despite not having a strong characteristic, I can drink it naturally in 500ml. I’ve already had three cans, and it’s always the same.

The evaluation of KiiVA may vary depending on whether you prefer a taste that you can drink without feeling any strange aftertaste or a flavor that leaves a strong impact.

For me, it’s a bit lacking if I’m drinking it regularly, but after having intense flavors every day, I sometimes crave a more refreshing option like KiiVA. It’s refreshing but not weak, with a flavor that’s pleasant to enjoy.

Energy Ingredients of KiiVA Energy Drink

It contains 100mg of caffeine, 625mg of arginine, and 450mg of guarana. The caffeine content is relatively low for a 500ml drink.

On the other hand, the arginine content is the second highest after the now-discontinued ReGain Energy Drink. In Japan, most energy drinks have around 300mg of arginine per 250ml, so in KiiVA, the arginine content has been doubled along with the volume.

Mismatch Between Can Design and Flavor

KiiVA's message feels very much like a Japanese energy drink—intense and passionate. It has a unique energy drink vibe that other beverages don’t quite have.

Along with the bold message, the can design has a sharp image with black and silver. However, I felt a slight gap between the can’s sharp design and the soft color and flavor of the drink inside.

The previous energy beauty drinks released by KiiVA had a brighter, lighter pink, so I think this KiiVA would have worked better with a more vibrant, flashy pink. Since the can also uses red, a bright red liquid like Burn would have matched the energy drink image and made it exciting to drink every time.

If it had yellow liquid, I would have thought, "Ah, not again!" The combination of the can's image and the drink inside is important.

Also, no Japanese manufacturer has achieved colorful tabs like Monster yet, so I think it would be quite interesting if a Japanese company started doing that alongside flavor expansions. (●´ω｀●)
