KIIVA EXTREME

KIIVA EXTREME, released in 2019, has been renewed. It was released on October 24 at Ministop stores nationwide, and from October 25, it was available on Amazon and Rakuten.

The 2022 renewal not only changed the can design but also evolved the flavor, which has been refined based on the original version.

Flavor of KIIVA EXTREME

Upon opening, a sweet and refreshing apple-like fragrance fills the air. The color is the same yellow as the previous KIIVA EXTREME. My memory of the taste is a bit unclear, but it seems like there’s not much change in flavor, does it?

When I take a sip, it has a slightly less sweet, fruity apple cider-like flavor.

While I don’t remember the taste of the 2019 version of KIIVA EXTREME clearly, this one has a noticeable clear deliciousness and a sweetness from the fruit flesh, with a refreshing aftertaste that makes it easy to finish the whole 500ml.

It especially seems like there’s a difference in the intensity of the chemical flavor compared to the previous version. The slight reduction in chemical taste has made the fruity flavor more prominent, making it more enjoyable.

Comparison Between New and Old KIIVA EXTREME

Since I still had some of the previous KIIVA EXTREME in stock, I decided to compare the new and old versions side by side.

Was it really this clear back in 2019? It’s been three years, so the drink might have deteriorated, but let's compare it with the effect of the aging process in mind.

The old KIIVA EXTREME had a stronger chemical flavor in both its scent and taste. The fruity flavor, unique to the extreme version, gets enveloped by the chemical flavor before I could taste it properly. This matched my memories from the past. While the flavor and aroma have changed with the aging process over the past three years, the new KIIVA EXTREME has no chemical taste, making it refreshing and easier to drink. Personally, I definitely prefer the 2022 re-release of KIIVA EXTREME.

The nutritional contents of both versions are the same. Since the base flavor is the same, it’s possible that changes were made in the chemical flavorings.

Energy Ingredients of KIIVA EXTREME

Contains 160mg of caffeine, 625mg of arginine, and 225mg of guarana. There have been no changes in the energy ingredients between the new and old versions.

Design of KIIVA EXTREME

The original black-and-white Tommy Rim design, which was used for the first KIIVA Vodka, makes a return with KIIVA EXTREME. Personally, I love how this black-and-white design captures the essence of Tommy Rim. With the 500ml big size, it’s imposing and sure to make an impact on store shelves.

When compared to the design of the old KIIVA EXTREME, it looks like this.

Tommy Rim’s design avoids expanding the white areas, giving it a sharp impression, and the black color helps to emphasize it. This is one of its most attractive features.

The back of the can has an interesting format, with nutritional information displayed in a way that resembles the American food labeling format.

The original black-and-white design by Tommy Rim is the best, and I feel like this design fits the 500ml large size the best.
