Cheerio Bionic Ace

Posted on July 25, 2014 | Last updated February 21, 2025

Bionic Ace
This is BIONIC ACE by Cheerios. Although it's not labeled as an energy drink, for some reason, it’s often recognized as one. Energy drink enthusiasts review it as a "pseudo-energy drink."

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Bionic Ace

The scent is 60% vitamin-like, 20% chemical, and 20% sugary fruity punch.

As for the taste, it’s incredibly sweet. The typical tartness and chemical taste of vitamin drinks are quickly overshadowed by the unique sweetness of Bionic Ace. When served at room temperature, the sweetness is very rich. Even when properly chilled, it still feels quite sweet. You can think of it as a drink that’s sweet and leaves you thirsty.

It’s a bit too sweet and lacks punch, so it doesn’t have much of an energy drink vibe. The image is more of a sweet vitamin drink.

Energy Ingredients of Bionic Ace

Bionic Ace
The “ACE” in Bionic Ace seems to come from the vitamins A, B, and C, which are known as the “vitamin ACE.” These three vitamins are particularly high in antioxidant properties and are collectively referred to as vitamin ACE.
The six amino acids included are alanine, glycine, glutamic acid, phenylalanine, isoleucine, and aspartic acid.

Additionally, there are large amounts of sugar and honey, which contribute to the sweetness that wraps around the chemical taste. While caffeine is listed, it appears to be in such small quantities that no specific amount is mentioned.

Good for a Low-Priced Energy Drink

Bionic Ace
While it’s clear that Bionic Ace is not an energy drink, given the growing number of unclear products in the energy drink category, I think it could stand out by competing in price, packaging design, ingredients, and taste. Bionic Ace was priced around 90 yen, which seems close to the regular price, not a discount.

Low-priced energy drinks are not commonly seen as main items in convenience stores, so unless you’re an energy drink enthusiast, most people probably don’t know about it. I hope it becomes more popular, especially since similar products with the same ingredients, taste, and branding can be found at half the price.
