In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Looks Cool
With its jet-black, smooth texture and a simple design featuring coffee beans and the word "BLACK" in the center, this can looks sleek and stylish. It would have been nice if Kowa's red logo was placed on the back instead.
The key energy ingredients are clearly labeled, and overall, the design is simple and easy to understand.
Since it's priced higher than regular canned coffee, it might also be aiming for a slightly premium feel.
Flavor of Powered Coffee Black
As for the taste, it’s just like regular black coffee—you wouldn't guess it's an energy drink.
Canned coffee like this often feels a bit thin, but it has a nice roasted flavor. It’s easy to drink and could be considered one of the better black canned coffees out there.
It contains various herbal extracts, but they’re completely undetectable. You could serve this as regular coffee, and no one would question it.
Energy Ingredients of Powered Coffee
The world's first canned coffee to successfully blend four power ingredients (150mg of royal jelly extract, 100mg of Siberian ginseng extract, 100mg of jujube extract, and 50mg of goji berry extract), along with three vitamins (B1, B2, and B6).
It’s unclear how much of a power boost this actually provides, but swapping out your usual coffee for Powered Coffee might be a good way to kickstart your morning and stay sharp at work.
At 150 yen per can, it's much cheaper than energy drinks, making it a cost-effective option for those looking for a caffeine boost.
There’s a note suggesting a daily intake of one to two cans.
For office workers who drink coffee all day, that might not be nearly enough.
It would be interesting to see someone do a "Switched to Powered Coffee for a Week" experiment.
Though, honestly, I doubt it would make a huge difference. (;´∀`)
