LIVE PLUS Zero Sugar is part of the long-established New Zealand energy drink brand, LIVE PLUS.
Originally released by Coca-Cola in 1999, the New Zealand energy drink brand "LIFE PLUS" was rebranded as "LIVE PLUS" after it came under the Monster Energy umbrella, and it continues to this day.
This brand is relatively unknown outside of New Zealand, but it has a longer history in the energy drink market than brands like Monster Energy and Rockstar.
In 2024, I had the opportunity to visit New Zealand for the first time, and I was finally able to try the beloved flavors that have been enjoyed for years.

Flavor of LIVE PLUS ZERO SUGAR
Opening the can releases a citrusy aroma with notes of lemon and lime, similar to the scent of LIVE PLUS ORIGINAL. This scent reminds me of the main competitor, V Energy Drink. Now, let’s take a sip.
When I take a sip, I get a sweet and sour mix of lemon and lime flavors. Compared to the full-sugar version of LIVE PLUS ORIGINAL, the aftertaste has no chemical-like bitterness. This makes the sweetness more prominent, and I actually find the sugar-free version to have a more pronounced sweetness compared to the full-sugar version.
The usual bitter, chemical taste often associated with energy drinks is absent, and LIVE PLUS ZERO SUGAR has a flavor closer to V Energy Drink, which I find easier to drink than the full-sugar version of LIVE PLUS.
It has a strong fruity taste thanks to the distinct sourness, and it doesn’t taste watered down like many other sugar-free drinks. There’s also no unpleasant aftertaste from artificial sweeteners, which makes the overall experience highly enjoyable.

Contains 150mg of caffeine, 25mg of guarana, and 15mg of ginseng.
Design of LIVE PLUS ZERO SUGAR
The design features a light blue color to represent the sugar-free formula, with black used for the background of the logo. It’s a simple design, but honestly, I feel like it could use more creative elements to make it stand out more.
The product name and flavor name are only listed in small text on one side. If the logo is displayed facing forward on store shelves, the product and flavor names are not visible, which is a downside.
Since being rebranded under Monster Energy, the design has become simpler. It’s a shame that the design lost some of the brand’s uniqueness, and I hope that in the future, the brand will have more expressive designs that reflect its charm.
