Lost ENERGY DRINK
This is the original flavor of Lost ENERGY DRINK, launched in 2004 by Hansen, as part of the California surf brand’s energy drink series.
At first, I thought it was just another gimmicky energy drink, so I didn’t have high hopes... but once I tried it, I was blown away by how unexpectedly delicious it was! Σ(・∀・;)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Lost ENERGY DRINK
Upon opening, I was hit with a rich, sweet aroma mixed with a vanilla-like scent—something I hadn't experienced in a long time. It brought back memories of that unique, intense fragrance I encountered when opening my very first energy drink.
The liquid inside is reddish, almost cola-like in appearance. But the scent is a powerful, classic sweet energy drink aroma.
Thinking it would be a classic sweet flavor, I took a sip... and was shocked by an incredibly intense chemical flavor, unlike anything I’ve tasted before! Σ(・∀・;)
The first sip hits hard, with a chemical punch reminiscent of Rockstar Original or Battery Original, but even stronger—completely unexpected from such a sweet-smelling drink.
Right after the chemical blast, a syrupy, sweet, and almost spicy richness floods your mouth and nose, giving the impression of drinking something alcoholic. It was my first time experiencing such a strong blend of chemical and syrupy sweetness that somehow worked together.
Unlike typical chemical-heavy drinks like Rockstar Original, this one stands out for its overwhelming sweetness and thickness. It’s not a case of “a classic flavor with hints of this or that”—everything hits you at once: powerful chemical notes, sweetness, and aroma, all at full blast. It feels like they threw in every "classic" flavor at maximum intensity.
Some people grow to love chemical-heavy flavors over time, but Lost ENERGY’s ultra-sweet syrupy chemical punch might be a bit much for most people. (;´∀`)
Energy Ingredients of Lost ENERGY DRINK
The energy blend includes 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, plus carnitine, ginseng, guarana, inositol, and maltodextrin—similar to Monster Energy's blend.
Although the ingredients don’t set it apart, it’s a shame that Lost’s unique flavor and concept didn’t extend to its energy blend. With such a distinctive taste, it feels like a missed opportunity.
A Surprisingly Brilliant Energy Drink
Lost ENERGY DRINK was one of the many brands that emerged during the height of the American energy drink boom. Tasting it now, over a decade later, it still stands out for its intensely thick, classic-meets-chemical flavor profile—a true heavyweight in this category.
It’s a shame this drink ended as just another apparel-collab novelty. With its bold flavor and affordable positioning, it could have competed alongside rich-flavored drinks like VENOM if it had stayed on the market longer.
However, the design felt like a straight-up Monster Energy knockoff—just something slapped together to look "energy drink-ish." Back then, the energy drink scene was chaotic, and many brands struggled with a clear concept.
But given enough time, brands usually refine their identity and carve out their niche. For example, since 2018, Bang Energy has fully embraced a fitness lifestyle audience, making its concept crystal clear. Sadly, Lost ENERGY DRINK vanished before it could find its direction.
The can features a red ring-pull tab. Since it was made by Hansen (Monster Energy’s predecessor), it carries many design elements straight from Monster Energy. Apparently, they didn’t bother with a custom logo on the tab—probably too small for it.
