Matsukiyo EX STRONG LOVE & PEACE Energy Drink
The third installment of the Matsukiyo Energy Drink series, LOVE & PEACE, was released as a limited-edition product. Once again, the contrast between the can's exterior and the actual drink's color was a key focus in its design. This time, the liquid inside is an astonishingly vibrant, glowing pink! Naturally, it became a hot topic on social media.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Matsukiyo Energy Drink EX STRONG LOVE & PEACE
The moment you open the can, a fragrance reminiscent of air freshener and lactic acid drinks bursts out. However, rather than overwhelming the room, the scent is pleasantly mild, teasing you to guess what the flavor might be.
When poured into a glass, the liquid is a glowing, transparent neon pink. I knew it would be pink, but I didn’t expect it to be this luminous!
Taking a sip, you’re met with a sweet and tangy Calpis-like flavor, accompanied by a lactic acid drink aroma that spreads from your mouth to your nose. After drinking, a slight residue typical of lactic acid drinks lingers.
Unlike thick, creamy lactic acid drinks, this has the texture of a regular carbonated beverage, making it easy to drink—similar to Calpis Soda. The taste might make you think it contains actual lactic acid bacteria, but in reality, it's designed as a men’s vitality drink with ingredients like zinc and citrulline. That bold pink color certainly gives off an "adult" impression... (^_^;)
Both the taste and aroma are neither overpowering nor lingering too long. Each sip releases a pleasant lactic acid drink scent and a sweet-and-sour flavor, making it surprisingly easy to enjoy. If you add ice and chill it thoroughly, the carbonation enhances its refreshing taste.
Energy Ingredients of Matsukiyo EX STRONG LOVE & PEACE
This drink contains 162mg of caffeine, 6.75mg of zinc, 500mg of arginine, 500mg of citrulline, and 7.5mg of isoleucine.
The caffeine content is high, which explains why it became a hot topic on social media. If you're looking to stay awake, drinking Matsukiyo LOVE & PEACE might be a more efficient choice than Monster or Red Bull due to its smaller serving size. Other energy drinks with similar caffeine levels include Seiyu's private label energy drink Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink and Don Quijote's past product Blackout GOD. Since it's only 250ml, be mindful not to overconsume.
With a combination of arginine, citrulline, and zinc, this drink aligns with the image of a men’s vitality-enhancing beverage. And that intense pink color… is it meant to resemble a certain kind of lotion? (^_^;) It's impressive that a major company like Matsukiyo greenlit such a bold concept!
At 500mg, the arginine content is higher than that of most other energy drinks. Citrulline is also included at the same amount. However, considering that training supplements typically contain 2000mg–5000mg, these ingredients likely serve more as a marketing point rather than offering substantial benefits. Both compounds promote vasodilation and improved blood flow. In the fitness world, they are commonly used to enhance muscle pump and stimulate growth hormone secretion.
The zinc content is moderate. A standard zinc supplement usually provides around 14mg per tablet, so this drink contains roughly half that amount.
Unlike previous Matsukiyo energy drinks, this one fully embraces a novelty theme— from its ingredients and color to its name. Naturally, it went viral on social media (^_^;)
The Case for Matching the Can’s Color with the Drink
Matsukiyo energy drinks typically feature a surprise contrast between the can’s exterior and the drink’s color, making them fun to pour into a glass. However, in the case of LOVE & PEACE, wouldn’t it have been better if the can was pink as well?
Since this is the third flavor in the series, the shock factor of pouring a drink that looks entirely different from the can is starting to wear off. For LOVE & PEACE, going all-in with a pink-on-pink design would have made the concept even clearer—after all, it’s a men’s vitality drink! Imagine how fun it would be if the can's shocking pink exterior perfectly matched the glowing pink liquid inside.
The tab remains the usual silver. While a custom-colored tab might be difficult to implement, given the social media buzz around these drinks, it could be worth considering!
