When you open the can, a fruity, fruit milkshake-like aroma bursts out, which is surprising. It smells really nice.

When poured into a glass, it comes out in a paint-like light blue color. Normally, you'd be surprised by the color gap between the red can and the contents, but it’s become so familiar that it’s not surprising anymore. Instead, I’m more impressed by the fruity aroma, which seems to be a hit with Japanese people.

Personally, I was hoping for that surprise and excitement of "this smells delicious!" the moment I opened it.

When I take a sip, the flavor is just as fruity and fresh as the aroma, with a mix of lactic acid drink flavors. It's really tasty. Even after a few sips, the impression of "delicious" didn’t change, and I was able to enjoy it until the very last drop. Matsukiyo has really nailed it!

It leaves behind a distinctive aftertaste from the lactic acid drink, and the aroma lingers, so you’ll definitely feel satisfied with the drink. However, at 250ml, it might feel a little small. I wanted more! (๑´ڡ`๑)

As mentioned in the ingredients section, if the protein content were increased while keeping the taste just as it is, and the can color and the liquid color were matched, it could definitely be well-received, especially with the current fitness boom.

Energy Ingredients of Matsukiyo Energy Drink EX STRONG RUN & GUN

The drink contains 162.5mg of caffeine, 500mg of arginine, and 4.25g of protein. While the caffeine content is high, it’s a shame that the protein content isn’t higher.

For comparison, the Savas Milk Protein in paper packs, which you can buy at convenience stores or supermarkets, contains 15g of protein for about ¥150. If Matsukiyo could increase the protein content to that level, it would make for an even better product.

The taste is similar to Savas, and if they increased the protein, RUN & GUN might attract users who are currently using Savas.

It Could Be a Regular Item

This time, the combination of red and black. Since the flavor was so good, I felt like they should have matched the color of the can with the contents for a more serious design.

Recently, Matsukiyo seems to have stopped heavily promoting products as "trending on SNS," so I think it might be a good idea to introduce more genuine energy drinks, without leaning toward novelty products, and I’m hopeful for that.

By the way, Matsukiyo’s private brand protein bars have been popular since their release. They contain 15g of protein, which is on the higher end for domestic products, and they cost just ¥98 at the store. They’re incredibly cost-effective and delicious, so they’re quite addictive. There’s even a sign limiting purchases to two per person.

If RUN & GUN could increase the protein content, with its high caffeine content, it could sell like hotcakes. The color also matches the red and black protein bars. It’s a pity that it’s a limited edition.

Energy drinks are often consumed before workouts to get pumped up, and with its hydration, protein, and caffeine content, RUN & GUN could easily become a go-to pre-workout drink. The taste is good too. Even experienced energy drink enthusiasts who work out were impressed by the taste of RUN & GUN.

Before drinking it, I thought it might just be a novelty item with added protein, but the delicious taste really won me over. If they reconsider the ingredients and make it a regular product, I think it could become really popular.

What will Matsukiyo's next product be like? Personally, I really liked RUN & GUN, so I’m looking forward to it. A shift away from novelty products toward more serious options could be a good move!
