freeway up CLASSIC

Posted on October 9, 2022 | Last updated February 2, 2025

freeway up CLASSIC
The classic flavor released after the brand name changed from mixxed up to freeway up. This is a private label energy drink from the large supermarket chain Lidl. While the product name may vary slightly depending on the country of sale, the contents are essentially the same.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of freeway up CLASSIC

Upon opening the can, the sweet, classic flavor aroma spreads. It’s almost the same taste as the previously reviewed mixxed up CLASSIC.
Flavor of freeway up CLASSIC
Taking a sip, it has a sweet and sour, straightforward classic flavor with no distinct aftertaste. There is no overwhelming chemical taste, making it a universally appealing, easy-to-enjoy flavor. The taste is almost identical to the previous mixxed up version. It’s such a classic flavor that there’s no need to change it.

At around 50 yen, if you're not particular about the brand, freeway up CLASSIC is more than enough.

Energy Ingredients of freeway up CLASSIC

Energy Ingredients of freeway up CLASSIC
It contains 75mg of caffeine, taurine, and glucuronolactone. The ingredients seem unchanged from the previous mixxed up CLASSIC.

The freeway up logo is the same as the old mixxed up logo.

After the rebranding to freeway up, the entire can is covered with a scale-like design, and for some reason, it now features an "X"-shaped logo.
Design of freeway up CLASSIC
The freeway up series has slightly different designs depending on the country. The freeway up CLASSIC I reviewed here was sold in Slovakia.
