Monster Energy Original (20 Types Listed)
The original line not part of any series.

MONSTER ENERGY (Japan Version)
The Japanese version of Monster Energy has a sweeter, richer flavor and aroma compared to the U.S. version, making it very satisfying. Each country has slight differences in taste, and if you're looking for a unique sweet flavor, the Japanese version is highly recommended.
MONSTER ABSOLUTELY ZERO (Japan Version)
The Japanese version of Absolutely Zero. Initially launched with the U.S. Lo-Carb design, it was later redesigned with Japan's unique branding. Despite being zero-calorie and sugar-free, its rich aroma and sweetness are impressive. Commonly referred to as "Abu Zero."
MONSTER ENERGY LO-CARB
A low-sugar version of the original Monster Energy, known as Lo-Carb. While artificial sweeteners are used in place of sugar, it maintains a sweetness and aroma comparable to the original.
MONSTER ENERGY ABSOLUTELY ZERO
Known as "Abu Zero," this version removes all sugar and calories from the original Monster Energy. It achieves a sweetness equivalent to the original using only artificial sweeteners.
MONSTER ENERGY ZERO SUGAR (Japan)
Renamed from the previously available Abu Zero, Zero Sugar offers the same rich flavor of the original Monster Energy, making it a masterpiece despite being zero-calorie and sugar-free.
MONSTER ENERGY ASSAULT
Featuring a unique cherry cola-like sweetness, Assault is a long-selling, iconic flavor available not only in the U.S. but also worldwide.
MONSTER ENERGY UNLEADED
Released exclusively in the U.S. in 2014, Unleaded is a caffeine-free version of Monster Energy. Although its taste slightly differs from the original, its lack of caffeine makes it a great choice for night-time consumption.
MONSTER ENERGY CUBA LIMA
Inspired by the cocktail Cuba Libre, this non-alcoholic beverage features a lime-cola flavor. It was revived in the U.S. in 2014 but quickly discontinued. In 2018, Japan introduced its own version of Cuba Libre.
MONSTER ENERGY CUBA LIBRE
The Japanese version of Cuba Lima, launched with a new package design and named Cuba Libre after the cocktail. It offers a subtle lime-cola flavor.

A collaboration product with the U.S. football star known as Gronk. Its unique blend of Monster and Red Bull flavors often leaves drinkers puzzled. Available in the U.S. and Canada.
MONSTER ENERGY GRONK FORMULA #87
A revamped version of GRONK. While it may seem like just a design change, the formula has also been updated.
MONSTER ENERGY THE DOCTOR
A collaboration product with Valentino Rossi, unexpectedly distributed in the UK and widely sold in the EU. Despite containing only 4% fruit juice, it offers an exceptional orange-flavored drink.
MONSTER ENERGY ROSSI
The Japanese version of THE DOCTOR, released as a limited-edition product. It features a refreshing orange fruit flavor similar to its EU counterpart but was known for overproduction and slow sales.

The second collaboration with Lewis Hamilton, initially released in the EU and now available globally. Its flavor resembles Red Bull with a hint of grape.

A concentrated version of the original Monster Energy in a 150ml glass bottle containing 140mg of caffeine, M3 offers an energy-shot-like experience. Japan was the second country to release it after the U.S.
UBER MONSTER ENERGY BREW
Made using the same brewing process as beer, this non-alcoholic drink combines Monster's signature sweetness with a hint of beer flavor, offering an experimental taste.
MONSTER ENERGY IMPORT
A European-style 550ml can with a resealable wing-slide design. While manufactured in the U.S., its concept is "Monster Energy imported from the EU to the U.S."
MONSTER ENERGY IMPORT LIGHT
The low-sugar version of Monster Energy Import, also featuring the wing-slide resealable can.
MONSTER ENERGY M-100 GHOST
Part of the camo-patterned M-100 series, Ghost features 100 calories and 100mg of caffeine. Its Mountain Dew-like flavor failed to attract repeat customers, leading to its quick discontinuation.
MONSTER ENERGY M-100 PHANTOM
Another camo-patterned M-100 series product, Phantom features a textured orange camo design. Its ordinary orange flavor lacked uniqueness, leading to its clearance sales.
MONSTER ENERGY MULE GINGER BREW
A limited-edition Moscow Mule-flavored product available in select regions and stores in the U.S. Its copper mug-inspired can design was noteworthy.
MONSTER ENERGY SUPER COLA (Old Bottle Can)
A Japan-exclusive sweet cola-flavored Monster Energy in a 500ml bottle can. It pairs well with Cuba Libre for comparison.
MONSTER ENERGY SUPER COLA
In August 2022, this product was revamped with strong carbonation and a camouflage-patterned package. Its improved flavor is highly addictive.
Juice Monster (24 Varieties Listed)
A juice series blended with fruit juice. Originally part of the original lineup, it was rebranded and made into a series in 2015. Back in 2007, M-80 debuted with an impressive juice concentration of 80%. Chaos also had 70% juice at its launch, but the juice content gradually decreased and is now below 30%. Despite this, the series continues to deliver rich and fresh juice flavors, which is remarkable.
MONSTER ENERGY MIXXD
Grape flavor with 30% juice. This product was discontinued early in the series and is now difficult to obtain. Due to juice degradation, the original taste is no longer available. Based on my memory from living in the U.S., it was a rich grape and carbonated juice.
MONSTER ENERGY KHAOS 50%
The U.S. version of Khaos with reduced juice content of 50%. It features a dense orange flavor with a unique chemical-like taste characteristic of Khaos. Later, the juice content was further reduced to 30%.
Monster Energy Khaos (Japan) 50%
The initial Japanese release of Khaos with 50% juice. It maintained a rich orange base and Khaos's unique flavor. At the time, it was an imported product manufactured in the U.S.
Monster Energy Khaos (Japan) 30%
Following the reduction of juice content overseas, the Japanese version of Khaos also dropped to 30% juice. It shifted from being U.S.-made to domestically produced in Japan. The flavor of Khaos remains intact, with an adjusted richness that is easy for anyone to enjoy. Personally, I find this balance just right.
MONSTER ENERGY M-80 30%
M-80, the ultimate tropical fruit flavor. Initially, it had a high juice content of 80%, but it drastically dropped to 30%, likely due to difficulties in maintaining freshness. It is arguably the most delicious in the juice series.
MONSTER ENERGY M-80 80%
The original M-80 with 80% juice content. It had the highest juice content in Monster Energy's history, with a dense sediment. Unfortunately, the juice degraded over time, resulting in a unique degraded flavor reminiscent of apricot.
MONSTER ENERGY JUICED RIPPER
Ripper, renewed in Europe with 20% juice content. It features a bold black design, giving it a standard and straightforward appearance. Even with 20% juice, its taste remains unchanged.
JUICE MONSTER KHAOS
Khaos officially became part of the juice series. Juice content dropped to 30%, but the flavor and richness remain largely unchanged. It became less cloying, making it highly drinkable and widely appealing.
PUNCH MONSTER KHAOS
Released as "Punch" during a 2016 renewal in Canada. It tastes almost identical to Juice Monster Khaos in the U.S., allowing you to enjoy Khaos's dense orange flavor in both countries.
JUICE MONSTER RIPPER
This product is the renamed version of M-80 released as Ripper in Europe. Even though its juice content dropped to 20%, it remains the best tropical fruit flavor in the Juice Monster lineup.
PUNCH MONSTER RIPPER
The Canadian version of Ripper labeled as "Punch" since it cannot use the "Juice" label. It is reviewed as a separate product due to its different name. The taste base is the same as the U.S. version but slightly cleaner.
JUICE MONSTER PIPELINE PUNCH
A sweet tropical fruit flavor with mango, peach, and guava. It offers a rich taste yet bright and refreshing, making it easy to drink. This bestseller started in the U.S. and is now available worldwide.
PUNCH MONSTER PIPELINE PUNCH
The Canadian version of Pipeline Punch labeled as "Punch Monster." It differs in color and has a cleaner flavor than the U.S. version, making it even more drinkable.
Monster Energy Pipeline Punch
The Japanese version of Pipeline Punch. The flavor base is the same as the original U.S. version. With its refreshing and juicy tropical fruit flavor, it became a legendary product that sold out in just one month after launch.
JUICE MONSTER MANGO LOCO
Featuring a design inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead, this product delivers a sweet tropical fruit flavor centered around mango. It's a popular product released worldwide, including in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
PUNCH MONSTER MANGO LOCO
The Canadian version of Mango Loco under the Punch series. Despite its "Punch" label, it is actually juice. Reviews include comparisons with the original U.S. version.
Monster Energy Mango Loco (Japan)
Mango Loco finally debuted in Japan in April 2022, five years after its U.S. release. This masterpiece of juice-infused Monster Energy is now easily accessible in Japan.
JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH
This product features bold packaging with pirate ships and mermaids but offers a more artificial fruit punch taste than a juice-based flavor. Similar to Punch Monster Baller's Blend, it may not appeal to frequent buyers.
PUNCH MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH
The Canadian version labeled as "Punch Monster." The flavor base is almost the same as the U.S. version but with enhanced tropical fruit mix notes. Personally, I prefer this version.
JUICE MONSTER KHAOTIC
In 2020, Chaos underwent a complete renewal. Its juice content dropped to 10%, but its unique flavor remains intact. The collaboration design with RISK is an excellent piece of art.
JUICE MONSTER PAPILLON
Released in 2020. Despite having only 5% juice, it combines the delicious and refreshing flavors of peach, nectarine, and mango, making it a masterpiece of the Juice Monster lineup.
JUICE MONSTER AUSSIE STYLE LEMONADE
Released in 2022 with only 2% juice, the lowest in Juice Monster history. Nevertheless, its flavor is outstanding, delivering a fresh lemonade perfect for summer.
Monster Energy Aussie Style Lemonade (Japan)
Introduced in Japan in October 2023, the Japanese version offers unique flavors compared to its U.S. counterpart. Be sure to check out the review for a detailed comparison.
Monster Energy Papillon (Japan)
Released on June 4, 2024, the highly acclaimed Monster Energy Papillon finally debuted in Japan. Its taste is so exceptional that it's worth buying in bulk.
Monster Energy Ultra (20 Varieties Listed)
Zero calories, zero sugar, commonly known as Zero Zero (see glossary). The Ultra series started with the white Zero Ultra, followed by Ultra Blue and Ultra Red, expanding into various colors. Each design is exceptional, and the textured feel of the cans is fantastic! Later, the flavors increased, making it a flagship series for Monster Energy. The flavor quality is extremely high, and it could be said that it fundamentally changed the concept of zero-energy drinks.
MONSTER ENERGY ZERO ULTRA
The original Zero Zero Ultra series that was released in the U.S. and is a standard product worldwide. It has a flavor reminiscent of lychee, sports drinks, and aloe beverages, and it’s incredibly delicious for a zero-sugar drink.
Monster Energy Ultra (Japan)
The Japanese version of Zero Ultra. It is almost identical to the U.S. version, but the fruity flavor is slightly weaker. The crispness is more prominent in the Japanese version.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA BLUE
The luminous light blue is beautiful, and since 2019, Ultra Blue has expanded beyond the U.S. and Canada. It has a refreshing flavor that’s hard to describe, but it’s one of the most delicious in the Ultra series.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA RED
A classic Zero Ultra product that has been released in countries outside the U.S. It features a rich, glowing red, with a refreshing flavor and a deliciousness that makes it hard to believe it’s a zero-sugar drink. The white, red, and blue are now essential staples.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA BLACK
Released in 2014, Ultra Black has a rich black cherry flavor with a tart-sweet taste. The design combines black, silver, and red, with the taste remaining unchanged from the original release.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA SUNRISE
An orange-flavored zero-sugar drink that spread in Europe earlier than Ultra Blue, with a flavor that is easy to enjoy. It has a taste almost identical to a regular orange soda, with little fruitiness.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA CITRON
Ultra Citron has a citrus flavor with added sweetness. It expanded to Europe, and in 2018 it was discontinued in the U.S. and simultaneously released in South Korea under the name Citra. It’s a product with complex regional trends.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA VIOLET
A standard grape-flavored energy drink. The design, featuring mysterious witches, matches the purple color and is distinctive. The flavor is a strong grape with an Ultra twist, creatively overcoming the typical weaknesses of grape flavors in zero-sugar drinks.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA PARADISE
Ultra Paradise features a kiwi & apple flavor with hints of watermelon-like melon flavor. Released in the U.S. in 2019, it strangely expanded directly to Australia, bypassing Europe.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA FIESTA
Released in 2020 in the U.S., this tropical fruit-flavored zero-sugar drink, with no fruit juice, is a remarkable achievement in flavor. It’s incredibly delicious. With the release of Fiesta, all Ultra drinks now have 10kcal, so they are no longer Zero Zero.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA FIESTA SALES SAMPLE
A sample of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA FIESTA before its official release. The taste and ingredients are the same as the final product, but it’s interesting to compare them.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA ROSA
Released in 2020 in the U.S., Ultra Rosa has a floral rose flavor, but the actual taste is more of a fruity candy flavor. A comparison between Ultra Red and Zero Ultra mixed with pink and rosa flavors is also interesting.
Monster Energy Ultra Paradise (Japan)
Released in Japan in 2020, Ultra Paradise is the second installment in the Ultra series in Japan. As it continues to be released in many countries, this zero-sugar energy drink with a Japanese-style sweetness and savoriness was introduced. You can also compare reviews from different countries.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA WATERMELON
Released in September 2020, this watermelon-flavored drink stands out with its balanced tartness. Rockstar and Red Bull already had watermelon flavors, and Monster Energy was the last major brand to release one.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA GOLD
Released in 2021, Ultra Gold is the "golden" Monster Energy. Enjoy the rich pineapple flavor with zero sugar.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA PEACHY KEEN
Released in 2022, this fresh peach flavor comes with a 60s hippie-style can design. Even with ice, the flavor stays delicious from start to finish, making it a perfect summer zero-sugar peach drink.
Monster Energy Ultra Peachy Keen (Japan)
Released in Japan in July 2023, Ultra Peachy Keen offers an exceptional zero-sugar peach flavor that surpasses the original, with a flavor reminiscent of fresh peach flesh.
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA STRAWBERRY DREAMS
Released in January 2023, based on the appearance and product name, you might expect a dreamy, creamy strawberry flavor, but the actual taste...?!
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA FANTASY RUBY RED
Released in February 2024, this collaboration product with Pinky Taylor has a dark, pop design.
Monster Energy Ultra Violet (Japan)
Released in Japan on April 2, 2024, Ultra Violet, a zero-sugar grape flavor, arrives in Japan 7 years after its U.S. debut!
MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA VICE GUAVA
Released in October 2024, this sugar-free guava flavor with a Miami Vice-inspired design might just be the best flavor in the Ultra series.
JAVA/Caffe/Espresso (21 Varieties Listed)
Monster Energy with coffee flavor. Many varieties have been released in the past, and surprisingly, it's a consistently popular series in the United States. If you combine all past releases, this is the series with the most varieties. The sweetness is overwhelming in most of them, so it's recommended to serve them over ice for a refreshing drink. Apparently, Americans find this level of sweetness just right, as I was amazed to see my friend enjoying one under the hot Hawaiian sun (((;゚Д゚))))
JAVA MONSTER MEAN BEAN
A coffee with lots of milk, so sweet that it’s too much for Japanese people to finish. It doesn’t taste much like the coffee flavor most Japanese expect. It's best served over plenty of ice.
JAVA MONSTER LOCA MOCA
A sweet coffee with a creamy, distinct taste unique to the JAVA series, with just a hint of coffee flavor. It's a long-selling product that has continued since the early JAVA series.
JAVA MONSTER LO-BALL
An early JAVA product, before the name change to Vanilla Light. It was marketed as low-calorie, which was a bit confusing at first, but it might have been renamed to Vanilla Light.
JAVA MONSTER NUT-UP
An early JAVA product, before the name change to Toffee. The sweetness is toned down, and this is one of the few JAVA MONSTER drinks that has a coffee-like flavor, making it easier for Japanese people to drink.
JAVA MONSTER BIG BLACK
A drink with a slight coffee flavor. It wasn’t a long-seller, possibly because it didn’t suit those who prefer a sweet, creamy coffee. It was discontinued.
JAVA MONSTER CHAI HAI
An early JAVA product, now discontinued. Inspired by Indian chai, this drink has a spicy flavor that's a bit different from coffee.
JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN
An early JAVA product, now discontinued. This sweet coffee was inspired by Russian coffee but doesn’t have a distinctive taste, which is unfortunate.
JAVA MONSTER TOFFEE
A toffee-inspired product, surprisingly not overly sweet, making it easier for Japanese people to drink. Unfortunately, there’s no real coffee flavor, so it’s sweet, but you shouldn’t expect much more. It was discontinued in 2014.
JAVA MONSTER IRISH BLEND
Inspired by Irish coffee, this product is a sweet coffee flavor without alcohol. It’s hard to say whether it truly captures the essence of Irish coffee.
JAVA MONSTER VANILLA LIGHT
A lower-calorie version of JAVA MONSTER, the Vanilla Light. Despite the lower calorie count, it’s still sweet, and finishing it can be a challenge. It’s suited for those who want a lower-calorie milk coffee.
JAVA MONSTER KONA BLEND
Inspired by Hawaiian Kona coffee, this Kona Blend has a creamy, sweet taste but lacks the distinctive flavor of Kona coffee.
JAVA MONSTER KONA CAPPUCCINO
Another Hawaiian-inspired product, but it doesn’t have the cappuccino qualities you’d expect when poured from the can.
COFFEE MONSTER
A coffee product released in Japan that was discontinued after one year. It has a more bitter taste compared to the JAVA series from the U.S., offering a coffee flavor more typical of Japan.
Espresso MONSTER VANILLA ESPRESSO
A new coffee series released in the U.S. in 2018, Espresso Monster Vanilla. It offers the bitterness of coffee along with a creamy sweetness.
Espresso MONSTER ESPRESSO AND CREAM
A new coffee series released in the U.S. in 2018, Espresso Monster Espresso & Cream. It’s an adult coffee energy drink with a strong bitterness and richness.
JAVA MONSTER FARMER'S OATS
Released in 2019, this vegan-friendly drink contains oat milk and features a unique flavor with a balance of coffee bitterness. It’s part of a growing trend toward health-conscious and environmentally-friendly products.
Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
A new series in glass bottles released in the U.S. in 2018, Caffe Monster Mocha. It’s more of a chocolate drink than a coffee beverage.
Caffe MONSTER SALTED CARAMEL
Released in 2018, this salted caramel flavor in the Caffe Monster glass bottle series lacks a stronger coffee taste, which could have improved the experience.
Caffe MONSTER VANILLA
A new glass bottle series released in 2018, Caffe Monster Vanilla, which has a smooth, rich flavor that's not too sweet. It’s easy to drink and could do well in Japan.
JAVA MONSTER TRIPLE SHOT MOCHA
A new triple-shot series released in the U.S. in 2020, containing 300mg of caffeine. The flavor is bold, and it’s easy for Japanese people to enjoy the strong coffee taste.

JAVA MONSTER COLD BREW LATTE
Released in 2022, part of the Nitro Cold Brew series. This latte retains a rich coffee flavor and a smooth texture, providing a new era of coffee energy drinks.
Monster Energy Rehab (12 varieties listed)
The tea-based energy drink series using tea leaves such as green tea and black tea. In Japan, "energy drinks" are strongly associated with carbonated beverages, but in other parts of the world, this is not the case. The Rehab series, with its variety of flavors, has been loved for years as a non-carbonated tea energy drink. While preferences vary, sometimes after drinking intense flavors, you crave something refreshing like a Rehab drink. When poured into a glass, you can see the shimmering "god's powder" (powdered sediment) rising, which is a characteristic feature.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab ROJO TEA
A cranberry-flavored fruit tea. It doesn't really taste like black tea and is more akin to a non-carbonated fruit juice.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab LEMONADE
It tastes just like lemonade, with a refined and refreshing flavor. You might not notice any tea-like taste unless you're specifically looking for it.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA
This is not the green tea that Japanese people might imagine. If you expect the flavor of Japanese tea or matcha, it might feel out of place. This product is now discontinued.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab PROTEAN
A fruit tea-flavored, clear protein drink containing 15g of protein. With its full-bodied taste and content, this is undoubtedly one of the best daily energy drinks available.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab ORANGEADE
While the color may be unremarkable, it offers a perfectly balanced, non-carbonated orange juice flavor with a mild tea taste. It's an easy-to-drink refreshment suitable for regular consumption.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab PINK LEMONADE
A pink lemonade that came out after the classic lemonade, though it was eventually discontinued. However, the flavor itself is just a delicious lemonade.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab PEACH TEA
A relatively recent addition to the Rehab series, it has become a long seller. With its soft sweetness and refreshing taste, this peach tea is a hit.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA
A new release from 2018 featuring dragon fruit in the Rehab series. However, the flavor is more reminiscent of white grape or aloe-based drinks than dragon fruit.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab STRAWBERRY LEMONADE
Released in February 2021, this new version of the Rehab series features a redesign and an ordinary non-carbonated strawberry lemonade without tea leaves.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WATERMELON
Released in January 2022, this is the second non-carbonated fruit flavor in the Rehab series. This time, it features a watermelon flavor without tea leaves.
Monster Energy Rehab Lemonade Tea
Released in Japan in October 2022, the Rehab Lemonade Tea. It has a refreshing, fruity taste, reminding you that this is the type of energy drink Japan really needed.
MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WILD BERRY TEA
Released in 2023, this drink offers a fresh mix of berry sweetness and a refreshing iced tea flavor. It's one of my personal favorites in the Rehab series.
RESERVE (2 varieties listed)
The MONSTER RESERVE series, which suddenly appeared in the U.S. in 2021. Despite having about half the sugar content of regular energy drinks, it retains a rich flavor, making it both easy to drink and delicious. In 2022, it was also released outside of the U.S.
MONSTER ENERGY RESERVE WHITE PINEAPPLE
MONSTER ENERGY RESERVE WATERMELON
MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON TEA (5 varieties listed)
Launched in North America in 2019, this is a genuine tea-based energy drink series. While similar to the Rehab series, the flavor of the tea leaves is more pronounced in the Dragon Tea series.
MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON TEA GREEN TEA
A sweet North American-style green tea, but with an exquisite tea leaf flavor that creates a refreshing taste. It might surprise you if you're expecting Japanese green tea, but it’s a very drinkable tea energy drink.
MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON TEA YERBA MATE
A very drinkable yerba mate tea. It has very little of the distinct North American sweetness, making it a tea that can be enjoyed daily.
MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON TEA WHITE TEA
A simple white tea with a tea flavor. It’s not sweet and can be enjoyed as a refreshing daily drink. I’ve compared it to the Rehab White Dragon Tea and Canadian white tea.
MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON TEA GREEN TEA SAMPLE
A sales sample created before the green tea’s release. I compared it to the final product to see if there are any differences in flavor.
MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON TEA YERBA MATE SAMPLE
A sales sample created before the yerba mate’s release. I compared it to the final product to see if there are any differences in flavor.

MONSTER ENERGY DRAGON ICED TEA GREEN TEA
Released in April 2021 with four flavors, this is the green tea flavor from the Dragon Tea series in a 24oz Big Can. It was rarely available in stores.
MUSCLE MONSTER (5 varieties listed)
A protein energy drink containing 25g of protein. It includes a satisfying amount of protein for serious gym-goers, along with caffeine and Monster Energy's signature blend. The classic protein flavors are well-represented, and there is no discomfort when drinking it compared to other typical protein drinks. Each flavor is rich, sweet, and heavy. It's convenient for quick protein replenishment after workouts. The best way to drink it is by shaking it well and pouring it into a glass full of ice.
MUSCLE MONSTER ENERGY SHAKE COFFEE
While it is coffee-flavored, the inside is a sweet, heavy American coffee flavor, different from what Japanese people may expect. It's rich and contains solid bits as well.
MUSCLE MONSTER ENERGY SHAKE STRAWBERRY
If it weren’t for the thickness and heaviness, this would be a perfectly delicious strawberry protein. The sweetness and strawberry scent are just like American protein drinks, which would probably suit Japanese tastes as well.
MUSCLE MONSTER ENERGY SHAKE CHOCOLATE
A sweet chocolate flavor. The sweetness and thickness are strong, and it’s hard to finish the drink. Personally, I don’t even drink chocolate-flavored powder protein, so this one was tough for me.
MUSCLE MONSTER ENERGY SHAKE VANILLA
A classic protein flavor. There’s no distinct vanilla flavor, just sweetness, and personally, I wouldn't want to drink this. I'm not fond of sweet, candy-like drinks in liquid form...
MUSCLE MONSTER ENERGY SHAKE VANILLA BOTTLE
The muscle monster in a bottle, revamped in 2017 with a vanilla flavor. The protein content was increased to 27g, and the taste became lighter and more drinkable than the original can version.
NITRO / MAXX / EXTRA STRENGTH / NITROUS (14 varieties listed)
Rich and intense Extra Strength and the former Nitrous series. The scent and taste are so strong that even after finishing the drink, the aroma rises from your stomach. The can design, colors, and the color of the contents are all excellent. It's a shame that Killer Bee and Black Ice are gone, and the selection has decreased. This is my favorite series in the Monster Energy lineup.
MONSTER ENERGY NITRO SUPER DRY
Released as a standalone "NITRO" series in 2021, the Super Dry. It was upsized to 473ml from this release and later launched in Europe, becoming a long-selling flavor for Monster Energy worldwide.
MONSTER ENERGY NITRO COSMIC PEACH
Released in February 2023. The second installment from the "NITRO" series, featuring a tropical taste with a new peach flavor. It started in the U.S. and is now also available in Europe, making it a delightful masterpiece.
MONSTER ENERGY MAXX SUPER DRY
The third-generation Super Dry, revamped from the Extra Strength series in 2018. It has the most bubbles, strong stimulation, and a rich flavor. It's the only energy drink to inherit the Extra Strength legacy.
MONSTER ENERGY MAXX ECLIPSE
A grape-flavored drink with a rich, no-fruit-juice taste. Unlike previous series, it doesn't have the same punch, leaving the position of the MAXX series somewhat unclear.
MONSTER ENERGY MAXX SOLARIS
This one has a hard-to-describe flavor. It has a sweet and sour fruity taste with a floral note, reminiscent of the Red Bull Summer Edition but with a more earthy taste.
MONSTER ENERGY MAXX ZERO SUGAR MANGO MATIC
Released in 2019, this is the sugar-free MAXX series. It’s a masterpiece that shows how well the MAXX series can create a delicious mango flavor without any sugar.
MONSTER ENERGY MAXX ZERO SUGAR RAD RED
Released in 2019, this is another sugar-free MAXX series. It offers an entirely different drinking experience compared to previous sugar-free drinks, leaving Drin-kun surprised. It’s a game-changer in the history of sugar-free energy drinks.
MONSTER ENERGY Extra Strength Super Dry
The powerful stimulation that hits your mouth, throat, and stomach is remarkable. The rich lime and orange flavor make this one of the most intense energy drinks in the world.
MONSTER ENERGY Extra Strength Anti Gravity
MONSTER ENERGY Extra Strength Black Ice
MONSTER ENERGY Extra Strength Black Ice (0ZERO)
Punch Monster, Dub Edition (4 varieties listed)
The former DUB EDITION and PUNCH MONSTER series. The transition from DUB EDITION to Punch Monster occurred, and later Juice Monster Pacific Punch was released in the U.S., achieving an excellent fruit punch flavor. There were concerns about the disappearance of Punch Monster after the review, but in 2020, both flavors of Punch Monster were discontinued.
Monster Energy Hydro Series (6 varieties listed)
The Hydro series, released in the U.S. in 2017, is a hydration and sports drink line available in PET bottles. Monster Energy Ingredients
Many people might think that Monster Energy contains dangerous ingredients or that it has a high caffeine content. In conclusion, the ingredients in the product are listed on the back label of the can, so there’s no need to worry.
This is true not only in Japan but also in the US and Europe, where all Monster Energy products are sold. If you look at the back label, you will know everything. Monster Energy has been on the market for about 20 years, and if it contained truly dangerous ingredients, it wouldn't have been able to stay on the market for this long, nor would it have built a top global market share or be sold in countries worldwide.
The main energy ingredients common in most countries are caffeine (about the amount in two cups of coffee), vitamins, amino acids, and some countries add guarana and herbs. None of these are present in large amounts, and you can enjoy Monster Energy safely. Energy drinks don't provide dramatic effects and are mostly for the experience. Be sure to check the nutritional information on the back label next time.
Caffeine
In Japan, a 335ml can of Monster Energy contains 142mg of caffeine, which is about the amount in one and a half cups of coffee. Many people drink several cups of coffee daily, so you might feel that Monster Energy doesn't have much caffeine.
In larger sizes like 473ml or 500ml cans overseas, there’s usually around 160mg of caffeine. The exact amount may vary slightly depending on the product, but even compared to Japan, it’s not significantly higher. When converted to 100ml, Japanese cans actually contain more caffeine, so Monster Energy overseas doesn’t contain a large amount of caffeine.
Arginine and Taurine
In Japan, arginine is used instead of taurine to comply with regulations for soft drinks. Overseas, taurine is typically included in amounts of around 2000mg. Many people think taurine is harmful, but there’s no clear evidence proving its effectiveness for fatigue recovery, so it’s okay to think that just because it's in an overseas energy drink doesn’t mean it’s particularly effective.
Similarly, even though arginine is present in amounts like 500mg or 1000mg, it’s not enough to cause any dramatic effects. When taking arginine in supplements, the usual dosage is five times higher than what’s in Monster Energy, so the amount in the drink is likely to have only a minimal effect.
Types of Monster Energy
If you’ve traveled abroad, you’ve probably seen a wide array of colorful Monster Energy drinks on store shelves. So, how many types of Monster Energy are there in the world?
Since its launch, nearly 200 different flavors of Monster Energy have been developed. Currently, the US offers the most variety, with dozens of types being released simultaneously, including coffee, tea, protein, sports drinks, and fruit juice-based options.
However, not all of these products are available in stores at once, and the selection may vary by location. For more information, check out the Energy Drink Travel Logs from a true energy drink enthusiast who frequently travels abroad to research local energy drink offerings.
Monster Energy Flavors
In Japan, there has long been the stereotype that nutritional drinks are “unpleasant but effective,” which carries over to energy drinks. However, in Western countries, there is no such preconceived notion, and Monster Energy has released many delicious flavors that are incredibly popular. Sales have been rapidly increasing, and if the drinks weren’t good, they wouldn’t sell well.
The most popular flavors worldwide are tropical fruit juices, and in Japan, the Pipeline Punch became a huge hit. Many people who tried it probably realized that Monster Energy can actually taste great.
There are also coffee-flavored Monster Energy drinks overseas, but they taste like regular sweet coffee and are not the "strange, unpleasant energy coffee" you might imagine. All the flavors are created with an emphasis on great taste, so if you travel abroad, make sure to try different flavors of Monster Energy. You might find that your previous impressions of energy drinks were completely wrong.
