In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Taste of Caffe MONSTER MOCHA

Among the Caffe series, Mocha has the darkest color.
Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
Despite its deep color, you can’t really smell much even when you pour it into a glass.

When I took a sip, it had a sweet, smooth, creamy ice chocolate taste with no coffee flavor at all. Every time I try a coffee series, it feels like it’s not actually coffee. (^_^;)

Of course, there’s no coffee flavor, and there’s no milk sweetness or off-flavors either, so you can purely enjoy the sweetness of the chocolate. If you didn’t know it was part of the coffee series, you could just enjoy it as a delicious drink. It’s only because it’s labeled as a coffee drink that it feels odd. (^_^;)

It’s fine to drink Mocha alone, but personally, 405ml felt too much, and I got a little tired of it halfway through. The base flavor is rich, and the texture is thick, so if you top it with whipped cream or chocolate syrup, it could make for a more enjoyable experience.

Energy Ingredients of Caffe MONSTER MOCHA

Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
It contains 150mg of caffeine. The official site lists it as 175mg, but it’s unclear which is correct.

Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
I would normally assume the product itself is correct, but I’m not sure. It also contains taurine and Hawaiian coffee berry extract, which is considered a superfood.

Comparison between the Canadian and American versions of Caffe MONSTER MOCHA

About six months after the Caffe Monster series was released in the U.S., the same three flavors were launched in Canada. Let’s compare the American version and the Canadian version.

The one on the left is the American version, and the one on the right is the Canadian version.

When poured into glasses side by side, there’s hardly any difference in color. The aroma is almost the same as well, with neither having a strong smell.

The taste of the American version has a thicker chocolate flavor with a lingering smooth texture. On the other hand, the Canadian version seems to have a slightly lighter chocolate flavor.
Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
You can clearly tell the difference between the rich chocolate taste of the American version and the milkier, smoother, and slightly lighter chocolate flavor of the Canadian version.

When comparing them, the American version, with its more intense chocolate flavor, gave me a higher sense of satisfaction. However, this is definitely a matter of personal preference. If you drink the American version and think, “I’d prefer something lighter and easier to drink,” then the Canadian version will likely be a better choice for you.

Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
The Canadian version contains 150mg of caffeine, 500mg of taurine, and 10mg of coffee berry extract, with little difference from the American version. The calorie and sugar content are almost identical.

There are slight differences in the label and cap markings, but both the bottle and cap are the same.

The cap is a type that releases pressure when opened. It feels more special compared to cans. The brown Monster Energy logo also looks quite stylish.

Interestingly, the official Canadian site still hasn’t listed the Caffe Monster series even a year after its release.

Comparison between JAVA MONSTER and Caffe MONSTER Mocha

While we’re at it, let’s compare it with JAVA MONSTER’s LOCA MOCHA. Although both are called "Mocha," the taste is likely different since they’re from different series!

Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
You can clearly see the color difference when you pour them into glasses. The lighter JAVA LOCA MOCHA has a more distinct coffee aroma.

If you look closely from above, you can see that the JAVA LOCA MOCHA has milk-like components floating on top. Since I opened a fresh can, there shouldn’t be any quality issues. (^_^;)
Caffe MONSTER MOCHA
The taste is completely different, with JAVA LOCA MOCHA having a roasted coffee aroma and a lingering bitterness, making it truly feel like a coffee drink. If it’s this coffee-like, I can even tolerate a bit of sweetness.

After tasting both, the contrast with Caffe MOCHA made me think, “Caffe MOCHA is definitely not a coffee drink!” (*´艸`*)

When you compare them, you almost wonder why Caffe MOCHA even claims to be made with 100% Arabica coffee beans because the flavor is all chocolate. If you want to enjoy the coffee flavor, JAVA LOCA MOCHA is the one to go for.
