In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN

Upon opening, the distinctive sweet aroma of JAVA MONSTER quickly spreads, but since I’m used to it, I didn’t find it particularly overwhelming (perhaps unusually so).

JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN
Even though I shook it thoroughly because it’s an older product, there are still solidified ingredients floating in the drink. One can’t help but wonder if this is okay, right? (laughs)
I’d like to believe this is from a final batch released after 2007, but since it’s a few years old dairy product, even I, the Energy-Drink Enthusiast, was a little nervous (^_^;)

Cautiously taking a sip... the first impression is a sweet coffee beverage without much impact.
It's surprisingly drinkable even at room temperature, and the sweetness is quite subtle. Since I’ve gotten used to American coffee energy drinks, a first-time drinker of JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN might find it too sweet.
Looking at the ingredients, it seems quite a bit of milk is used, but the sweetness is unexpectedly low. Whether this is due to degradation is unclear (laughs).

As I keep drinking the Russian, there’s a strange taste and smell that lingers after swallowing... how can I describe it? It’s a hint of stomach acid in the aftertaste (ヽ´ω`).
You might not understand what stomach acid feels like, but I think this is caused by degradation. In simple terms, it feels like it’s gone bad (laughs).
*Old coffee dairy drinks tend to have this aftertaste, so it’s clear when degradation occurs Σ(´∀`;).

Concept of Russian Coffee

JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN was originally created with the concept of an alcoholic Russian coffee. I’ve never heard of Russian coffee before.

It seems to be a coffee made sweet with cocoa, chocolate, milk, sugar, and whipped cream, with eggs and vodka added, but since I’m unfamiliar with the taste of the original Russian coffee, I couldn’t even think of it as a “perfect recreation,” which was a little disappointing...

Uber Monster and Irish Blend, like this, are of course non-alcoholic coffee energy drinks, so anyone can drink them without worry.

Despite being inspired by the sweet and distinctive flavor of Russian coffee, other than being slightly less sweet compared to other JAVA MONSTER varieties, I didn’t feel much of a difference.

Energy Ingredients of JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN

Contains 188mg of caffeine, 200mg of ginseng, 1000mg of taurine, and an energy blend of 2500mg, including guarana and carnitine.
Looking at the ingredient list, coffee seems to be included, but only in small amounts, about 1g. It’s unclear what exactly is in the coffee (^_^;)

Design of JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN

JAVA MONSTER series has many cans with intricate designs, and the RUSSIAN has one of my favorite designs.
JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN
The entire can has a texture that resembles red-brown stone walls or floors, which I find really appealing. On the side of the can, there’s an image of Saint Basil’s Cathedral, which symbolizes Russia, and I imagine the color scheme represents the Red Square.

JAVA MONSTER RUSSIAN
The flag also features the Monster logo, and I can’t help but let my imagination run wild thinking about it!

The designs and concepts of older Monster cans are especially fun to think about. As you drink, it’s enjoyable to imagine the backstory and concept behind each Monster.
This Russian Coffee-inspired energy drink, based on the concept of an alcoholic Russian Coffee, seems to have been inherited by the Irish Blend in the same JAVA series. When you think of it that way, it’s clear that the texture usage is somewhat similar.
Monster Energy is really fascinating! ((o(´∀`)o))
