JAVA MONSTER TOFFEE
This is a review of JAVA MONSTER TOFFEE, part of the coffee energy drink series from Monster Energy's JAVA MONSTER lineup.
By 2014, it had been discontinued, but I happened to find it at an AMPM near Hollywood and grabbed it!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of JAVA MONSTER TOFFEE
The flavor is that of sweet milk caramel. Looking at the ingredients, there's quite a bit of milk, and the milky taste lingers lightly in the aftertaste.
It's sweet but not overwhelmingly rich, making it relatively easy to drink. While the theme is coffee + energy, there's almost no coffee taste to be found.
To begin with, toffee is a candy made by heating sugar and butter, which is then coated with chocolate or mixed with almonds. The JAVA MONSTER TOFFEE, inspired by toffee, has a sweet milk caramel flavor. It's more like a "light aftertaste of milk caramel" than an actual "toffee flavor."
TOFFEE is one of the JAVA MONSTER variants that feels quite distant from the coffee flavor.
Energy Ingredients of JAVA MONSTER TOFFEE
The ingredient list is also shown with both gram units and the exact amounts of taurine, etc., but strangely, the caffeine content is not listed.
Upon further investigation, it seems the caffeine content in TOFFEE is unknown, but it is likely around 180mg, similar to other JAVA MONSTER varieties. While the ingredients don't specify, we can assume it contains approximately 180mg of caffeine.
2011 Design with Different Labeling
Although I purchased this in 2014, the can design is from 2011. Therefore, it is labeled as an energy supplement rather than an energy drink.
The Monster logo on the pull-tab appears a bit rough, and the can as a whole has a somewhat old feel to it.
Additionally, the social media logo is only for Facebook. These small details are sure to excite can collectors. Apparently, there are similar differences in Monster Energy cans in Japan too (I was told this by overseas collectors!).
If You Want a Sweet Candy Flavor, Try TOFFEE
Although TOFFEE is part of the coffee series, it has no bitterness and features a slightly strong milk caramel flavor. If you're looking for something sweet but not too rich, TOFFEE is recommended. It has become rare to find in the US, but if you spot it, make sure to grab one! ((o(´∀`)o))
