This is a review of the JUICE MONSTER MANGO LOCO, which was released in the United States in the summer of 2017.

This was a highly talked-about product when the official Monster Energy release information was announced in January, as seen in the Monster Energy official release. Just looking at the can design and product name, don’t you think you’d be eager to try it right away!?

The aroma that bursts out is exactly as expected—sweet and fresh tropical mango. From the moment you smell it, you can already imagine how delicious it’s going to be. This rich, refreshing scent is amazing (*´艸｀*)

When poured into a glass, the color of the drink is a rich yellow with some cloudiness. It almost looks like the orange of the MANGO LOCO Monster logo. From the aroma and color alone, you can pretty much guess the flavor... but let’s drink it anyway!

As expected, it’s exactly as imagined! The flavor is a rich sweetness of mango, with a slight tanginess, mixed with refreshing tropical fruits like pineapple, orange, and papaya. Each sip is so enjoyable that it makes you doubt the low juice content (16%), with the dense taste and mouthfeel of mango really standing out.

It tastes great even at room temperature, but if you chill it thoroughly, the intense flavors soften, making the mix even more balanced.

The aftertaste lingers slightly, but the refreshing fizz and tang make you crave the next sip. It’s no surprise that the MANGO LOCO and Pipeline Punch are so delicious. Will there be another Juice Monster that surpasses these in the future?

Energy Ingredients of JUICE MONSTER MANGO LOCO

Caffeine 152mg, Taurine, Carnitine, Inositol.

Contains 16% fruit juice, with ingredients like mango, guava, white grape, apple, pineapple, lemon, apricot, orange, and peach. There are many elements to enjoy the fruity mouthfeel, which makes sense considering how satisfying this juice is to drink.

The design, which strongly evokes Mexico, is fantastic. The Ultra Citron also had a cool design reminiscent of the Day of the Dead, but the MANGO LOCO can has an even stronger impact with its bright colors that symbolize Mexico. The color scheme and design are so appealing that anyone would find it attractive.

The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) theme is clear in the design and even the back print. This theme has been used in products by not just Monster Energy, but also Red Bull. I think it’s really interesting how this culture is embraced in America (*´ｪ`*)

I hope it gets released in Mexico too. A large-scale sampling at Zócalo Plaza during the Day of the Dead would be amazing! The way this cool, respectful design is paired with such a delicious energy drink by top-tier Monster Energy is just incredible! (^_^;)

The tab is the same light blue as the can. I’d be happy to see various designs like orange-top or blue-top in the future. I believe this could be a long-lasting product, so I hope it continues to be sold for a long time ((o(´∀｀)o))

The appearance looks almost the same, so even if you grab a European MANGO LOCO while traveling, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference from the American version.

MANGO LOCO debuted in the U.S. and was later released in Europe, with various labeling, but it’s now available in many countries around the world.

Just for fun, I did a side-by-side taste test. I tried both the American and Austrian versions. They both have the same color.

I’ve tried MANGO LOCO from various countries, and all of them have the rich, fresh tropical fruit flavor, just as good as the original American version.

The fruit juice content is 1% lower in Europe (15% vs. 16%), but the difference is negligible.

The ingredients include white grape, mango, guava, apple, passionfruit, apricot, peach, orange, and lemon. While the recipe differs slightly from the U.S. version, there’s hardly any noticeable difference in taste. They’re almost the same, and most people probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in a blind taste test.

Monster Energy’s designs are often slightly modified for different countries.

Though the differences aren't significant, it's fun to see how each country represents its own culture. If you ever travel abroad, definitely try grabbing one and see for yourself.

Flavor of MANGO LOCO without Juice

Generally, MANGO LOCO contains juice, but in some Asian countries, it is sold without juice.

Let's start by trying the MANGO LOCO in Vietnam.

The color is almost identical to the juice-containing version, but there is barely any of the signature cloudy effect from the juice.

The taste is definitely based on MANGO LOCO, but rather than feeling like the texture of mango pulp, it has more of a sugar and flavoring-based impression that aims to resemble the original. Without the juicy umami and vibrant flavor that is characteristic of the juice-infused MANGO LOCO, people might feel that the taste is different in the juice-free version from Vietnam.

When I visited Vietnam in 2025, I noticed that the packaging design and product name had changed. It was labeled as "ENERGY + JUICE."

The contents have a slightly cloudy impression, characteristic of juice, and the color seems to be a bit darker. The taste also feels almost identical to the MANGO LOCO from the U.S. and Japan, with a similar umami flavor.

Looking at the back, it stated that the juice content was now 2%. The description, which previously read "Exotic flavor added," was changed to "Exotic juice added." I should also mention that the MANGO LOCO in Vietnam, which was initially juice-free, became juice-infused in 2024.

The MANGO LOCO sold in China is also without juice. It comes in a 330ml can, which is slightly smaller than the 355ml cans sold in other parts of Asia.

The contents are cloudy, but there is no fibrous texture typically associated with juice.

It has a fruity tropical fruit mix flavor, and even without juice, it's a delicious and enjoyable taste. Adding juice to this might transform it into a more flavorful, vibrant, and fresh experience.
