In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH

As soon as I open the can, a strong fruit punch scent bursts out. If I were to compare it to another Monster Energy drink, it’s similar to the *Ballers Blend*, with a direct fruit punch aroma.

JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH
The contents are as bold as the name suggests, with a vibrant red color. The scent and color scream "fruit punch," but I’m hoping there’s something more to it than just a regular fruit punch. Let’s give it a try!

My first impression is that the unique fruitiness and pulpiness typical of the Juice Monster line is absent. It’s more of a standard fruit punch flavor. The sweetness and tartness are smooth, with no sharp edges, and the taste isn’t overly heavy or focused on richness. The fragrance isn’t overpowering, and you can enjoy the fruit punch flavor without it being too intense. It’s not as rich and full-bodied as previous Juice Monster drinks, but it’s a solid, classic fruit punch flavor.

The taste isn’t weak, but perhaps if it were a little more intense, it would live up to the bold design on the can. Some may feel that the flavor doesn’t quite match the expectations set by the packaging, but it’s still delicious enough that I ended up finishing the can without hesitation. I’m giving it a solid ★ rating below!

JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH
The juice content is quite low at 10%. I can taste hints of papaya, pineapple, acerola, and cherry, but these flavors are just typical fruit punch notes. It’s not particularly unique to the Pacific Punch flavor, so there’s nothing that stands out as being distinctly "Pacific."

For those who are unfamiliar with fruit punch, it may just come across as another artificially flavored soda. Personally, I think it’s a great classic flavor, though (^_^;)

This may leave some wondering, "Is this really a Juice Monster?"

Energy Ingredients of JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH

The drink contains 160mg of caffeine, taurine, and carnitine, making for a pretty straightforward energy boost.

Of the 10% juice content, there’s orange, apple, raspberry, guava, cherry, pineapple, and passion fruit. You can pick out the cherry and pineapple flavors, but it lacks the real, fresh fruit sensation that Juice Monster’s usual fruity drinks have.

Design of JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH

The characters on the can evoke a sense of ocean adventure. I can’t help but wonder if there’s a story behind them, which is a fun thought to entertain. The illustrations use a lot of dots and limited color schemes, creating a cool, adventurous feel. This design would likely be well-received anywhere. It’s a departure from the usual imposing look of Monster Energy, offering something more laid-back.

In the U.S., there hasn’t been another energy drink brand that uses such colorful, original artwork and illustrations like this one. While some European brands have released limited-edition drinks with striking designs, Monster Energy takes it to a whole new level of visual impact with this release.

Of course, there’s the signature red tab. After enjoying the striking artwork and the vibrant red color of the fruit punch inside, I feel that familiar comfort from the red tab. (*´ェ`*)

Could This Be the End of the Punch Series?

Why, I wonder, would they release a fruit punch flavor in the Juice Monster line at this point? I started drinking it, but kept wondering why they chose to introduce this flavor now. The flavor is quite well done, though, and it makes me think that maybe Pacific Punch could replace the Punch Monster and Ballers Blend. Perhaps they’re merging the Punch and Juice Monster lines, and we could see the end of the Punch Monster series!

If I were to fantasize further, I could imagine the thick grape-flavored Mad Dog disappearing, making room for the revival of the MIXXD line in the U.S. with no overlap in flavor. Adding a purple MIXXD to the current Juice Monster lineup would look great on store displays, don’t you think? With the same illustrator behind Pacific Punch, they could even create a cool classic grape vineyard scene for the design.

I’ve clearly gone off on a tangent here (^_^;) But when you think about it, Pacific Punch doesn’t bring anything new to the table in terms of flavor, but the packaging and design are so impressive that it got me thinking about what might come next for Monster Energy.

I’m looking forward to what comes next!

2020 Update

JUICE MONSTER PACIFIC PUNCH
By 2020, the Punch Monster series had disappeared from the official website. It looks like what I speculated back in 2018 has actually come true.
