MONSTER ENERGY ABSOLUTELY ZERO

Posted on January 26, 2014 | Last updated February 21, 2025

This is Absolutely Zero, which is also available in Japan. It’s zero calories and zero sugar, yet somehow it has a rich sweetness and umami that you wouldn’t expect from a sugar-free drink. It’s a well-crafted, classic flavor that has a high level of completeness.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

What did they put in this? This scent, this flavor...

When it comes to seriously facing off with energy drinks, it’s common sense to drink them at room temperature. However, Absolutely Zero, which should be all about 'zero,' still maintains a very strong, sweet, perfume-like energy drink aroma. The flavoring is amazing. Even when chilled, the scent is intense, but if possible, experience it at room temperature. It will make you smile (*´ェ`*)

The taste is the epitome of the classic energy drink, sweet with that heavy, aromatic flavor that lingers in your nose. The aftertaste stays in your mouth, maintaining a sense of satisfaction. Both the original and Absolutely Zero have the unique Monster Energy feel, and I’d say it’s like eating while drinking (Mogu-Mogu texture). Energy drink lovers will find this particularly useful when dieting. However, even though it's Zero x Zero, something more than zero seems to be in there... Well, let's not touch on that.

Comparison with the Japanese Absolutely Zero

When comparing the Japanese and the American versions of Absolutely Zero, the American version has a stronger Mogu-Mogu texture and a more intense scent and flavor. Personally, I think the American version tastes better. Also, the packaging – the Japanese version looks very similar to the American version’s low-carb design, so much so that I was confused when it was released in Japan. Of course, I prefer the American version’s packaging, which exudes a dangerous aura.
