MONSTER ENERGY HYDRO ZERO SUGAR
This is MONSTER ENERGY's large-size sports drink series, Monster Energy Hydro Zero Sugar.
With a 750ml size and being non-carbonated, it’s a bit of a concern whether it can be finished outside of long exercise sessions. However, this Zero Sugar version is surprisingly delicious and at a level where I would want to drink it regularly.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Refreshing Pear & Peach Flavor
When you take a sip, a sweet, rich pear-like aroma fills your mouth, followed by a refreshing, light peach flavor.
Despite being Zero Sugar, you can still enjoy the fruit’s richness, making this sports drink more flavorful than expected.
The color of the drink is a cloudy white, and since it's Zero Sugar, I thought it might taste like Zero Ultra.
However, it’s actually a very well-made pear-peach flavor, completely different from the usual artificial and unidentifiable flavors found in most sports drinks.
The sweetness and fragrance are strong, and there’s no noticeable "Zero Sugar" taste, which is quite surprising. Monster Energy truly excels in this!
MONSTER ENERGY HYDRO ZERO SUGAR Energy Ingredients
Contains 188mg of caffeine and taurine. There are no other energy ingredients, and it is non-carbonated.
MONSTER ENERGY HYDRO ZERO SUGAR Design
The drink is inside a translucent bottle with a milky-white color. The 750ml bottle is large and robust.
The Monster Energy logo is designed in blue and silver, giving it a refreshing, light flavor impression.
Despite the sporty design of the bottle, the contents offer a refreshing fruit taste. If it tastes this good, it’s tempting to drink it not only during sports but also whenever you’re thirsty.
The Hydro series bottles are transparent, so once the drink is finished, the bottle looks empty, which is a bit disappointing... It would be great if they could fix that so it doesn’t quickly become waste.
Comparing Mutant and Hydro
I compared two Zero Sugar products in PET bottle form: Mutant and Hydro. At first glance, they might seem similar due to their Zero Sugar content, but let’s compare their tastes.
The color of both is a milky white, but when placed side by side, you can see that the Mutant is a brighter, whiter shade.
The taste is obviously different. Mutant’s White Lightning has a lychee flavor, similar to Zero Ultra, while Hydro Zero Sugar has a pear-peach flavor. Personally, I prefer the Hydro flavor as it’s tastier and more enjoyable.
Before the release of the large PET bottle in the Hydro series, the Mutant series was discontinued. It remains to be seen how well the non-carbonated PET bottle series will be received, but with the release of so many flavors at once, it’s clear that Monster Energy is pushing the Hydro line. I’m excited to see what direction they take next.
