MONSTER ENERGY KHAOS 50%juice
This is the American version of MONSTER ENERGY KHAOS with 50% juice, which was released around 2008 after the juice content was reduced from 70% to 50%. While not as degraded as MIXXD, it had been over 4 years since production, so it had understandably deteriorated (ヽ´ω`).

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of MONSTER ENERGY KHAOS 50% juice
The American version with 50% juice has the same juice concentration as the first Khaos released in Japan. However, the Khaos I’m reviewing today was produced in early 2011, so it’s heavily deteriorated, and it's best to consider it as a different product compared to the fresh Japanese 50% version.
When poured into a glass, the color is quite dark, likely due to deterioration. The smell also has that distinct, strong chemical orange fragrance typical of Khaos.
As for the taste, it’s very rich, with a flavor that mixes mandarin with apricot… This is definitely the unique taste of something that’s aged and deteriorated Σ(´∀`;). It’s quite similar to M-80 with 80% juice. Since these products are hard to find, I doubt I can compare the taste of old and new versions, but the more high-juice versions of Monster Energy you try, the more you’ll notice how the flavors evolve, though the taste itself starts to resemble one another over time.
This is the case with Khaos, M-80, and MIXXD—old high-juice Monsters all share this characteristic where, when you drink them, it’s hard to distinguish the flavor quality. To exaggerate a bit, the original flavor is almost completely gone. Once they deteriorate, the fruit juice flavors all tend to blend into a similar taste, leaving behind only the faintest traces of the original scent.
Of course, if it’s within the best-before date, the flavor and aroma are definitely much better. For true enthusiasts, these older energy drinks are worth trying—if you get the chance, you should definitely give them a go! (●´ω`●)

Comparison of 50% juice Khaos
Here, I’ve compared the old 50% juice Khaos with the fresh Japanese version within the best-before date. The juice concentration is the same, and the overall contents and color should be very similar, but just from looking at this, you can tell that the older American Khaos has a darker color.
From left to right: American 30% juice Monster Khaos, Japanese 50% Khaos, and American 50% Khaos. After leaving them for a while, you can notice differences in the sediment, color, and overall orange intensity.
It’s interesting to compare them all side by side! (*´艸`*)
Korean 50% Juice Khaos Past Best-Before Date by 2 Years
I bought this Khaos in Korea right after production was discontinued there, during a 100-yen sale. Over 2 years have passed since the best-before date, so I compared it with a still-in-date Japanese Khaos 50% juice.
The Korean Khaos, when opened, has a very strong and unique apricot-like fragrance due to deterioration. The juice that comes out is a deep orange, indicating it's completely overripe. When poured into a glass, it doesn’t look fresh at all. On the other hand, the Japanese Khaos, still within the best-before date, has a fresh and bright orange color that looks really nice. It’s fascinating how such a difference can appear after just two years past the best-before date.
As for the taste, the Korean Khaos is fully deteriorated, with a heavy apricot sourness and aroma overtaking the orange flavor. It’s no longer Khaos—it’s become something else entirely. I wouldn’t recommend drinking it anymore…(^_^;)
