In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of MONSTER ENERGY M-80 (80% Juice)
When opened, the scent is similar to the 30% fruit juice M-80 and Juice Monster Ripper, with a tropical fruit aroma. However, the intensity is on a whole different level! It's so distinctive that you can tell it's something else just by the smell.
When poured into a glass, it turns a deep orange color ( ゚д゚)ハッ! This is M-80? It’s such a rich orange. I can’t tell if the yellowed version became this color due to degradation or if it was always this deep with 80% juice... Since I never poured it into a glass back then, I can't be sure.
I did, however, see a photo from a friend who opened an 80% fruit juice M-80, and it indeed had this rich orange color.
I think, from what little I recall from back in the day, the color was even deeper than the current Ripper, but it wasn’t orange. If you review this now, you’d probably think it looks like this.
The flavor is a sweet tropical fruit mix of pineapple, papaya, and guava, but the intensity is doubled, with a strong sour apricot-like taste.
This is definitely due to degradation... It’s become much more intense and sour, but the essence of M-80 is still intact, and it remains incredibly rich.
It’s such a shame I couldn't drink this in its fresh state (ヽ´ω`).
Energy Ingredients of MONSTER ENERGY M-80 (80% Juice)
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, carnitine, guarana, and ginseng, all part of the Monster Energy blend.
The fruit juice components of M-80 consist only of apple, passion fruit, and pineapple, making it much simpler than the 30% fruit juice M-80 or Juice Monster Ripper.
Perhaps due to the high fruit juice content, the sugar content is 46g, slightly lower than the lower fruit juice versions.
Flavor Comparison of MONSTER ENERGY M-80 (80% Juice) and JUICE MONSTER RIPPER
As you can see when lined up, the color difference is quite noticeable. Honestly, it’s a drastic difference even without comparing them (^_^;)
There is definitely more sediment with the 80% juice version, and the color is much richer, with the quantity also appearing larger.
It seems like the more fruit juice content there is, the greater the degradation of the fruit components.
Over time, the fruit juice content in M-80 was reduced, from 80% to 30%, and now the current Ripper has only 20%. It seems that maintaining consistent quality with 80% juice was simply not feasible.
