This is a review of the main flavor of the new nitrogen-infused series released in 2018, MONSTER ENERGY MAXX SUPER DRY.

Only the Super Dry from the previous MONSTER ENERGY Extra Strength series has been carried over into the MAXX series.

In the previous series, I was captivated by the intense flavor that was so strong it could almost numb your mouth. I’ll be comparing the taste to see if it has changed with the rebranding, and sharing my review.

Flavor of MONSTER ENERGY MAXX SUPER DRY

The moment you open the can, a citrus aroma bursts out. The strong scents of orange and lime fill the air.

When poured into a glass, it turns a cloudy, glowing lime green with soft, frothy bubbles rising up, thanks to Nitro technology. Ah, it’s electrifying (*´艸｀*)
If you pour it carefully into the glass, the foam will rise more easily. However, the foam doesn’t last long, so I had to rush to take these photos (^_^;)

Let’s take a sip! At first, you’re greeted with the refreshing sweetness of orange pulp, followed immediately by the tangy flavors of orange, lime, and lemon spreading throughout your mouth. The strong citrus aroma also passes through your nose, and after drinking, it transitions into the fresh scent of orange peel. The entire experience is a delightful burst of citrusy goodness. I was really impressed by how fruity and flavorful this is – I didn’t expect it to be this rich.

The aftertaste lingers with the unique tingling sensation and aroma that are characteristic of the MAXX series. This strong lingering sensation is one of the best among citrus-flavored drinks. Yet, there’s no unpleasant aftertaste that stays behind.

It has a similar vibe to the VR46 Monster Rossi, but I think this flavor takes it to another level with a powerful deliciousness. You can’t help but think, “How did they create such a flavor?” After drinking hundreds of energy drinks, I still find that Monster Energy’s Nitrous, Extra Strength, and now MAXX all completely capture my heart the moment I take a sip. I’m at a loss for words (；´∀｀)

Contains 180mg of caffeine, taurine, ginseng, guarana, carnitine, and other Monster Energy blends.
The caffeine content has increased by 20mg compared to the previous Extra Strength Super Dry, which had 160mg.

I drank two cans at the same time for a comparison, and I didn’t get tired of it at all... That’s a total of 340mg of caffeine from two cans. If you drink two MAXX cans, you’ll get 360mg, so be careful not to overdo it (^_^;)

The design, with the green that spreads out so dynamically, is so Monster Energy—it’s the quintessential energy drink look! It makes you think, “This is definitely going to work!” This design evokes that kind of feeling, and the entire MAXX series has been unified with this design since the rebranding. While there are many intricate designs in juice and Ultra series lately, I think this simple yet unmistakably energy-drink design is great. The 355ml slim bottle size is also very attractive.

Comparison of MONSTER ENERGY MAXX SUPER DRY and EXTRA STRENGTH SUPER DRY

I secured a fresh can of the previous Extra Strength Super Dry from my trip to Los Angeles in November 2017 for this comparison, so I can now taste them side by side ((o(´∀｀)o))

When lined up like this, the foam and color look almost identical. The glowing lime green is undeniably beautiful.

Taste Comparison

First, the new MAXX. It has a perfect balance of rich sweetness and acidity, and the citrus fruit flavors, especially orange, are incredibly delicious.

Next, let’s try the Extra Strength Super Dry. While it shares the same citrus flavor profile, compared to MAXX, the fruitiness is a bit weaker. The initial impression when you taste it is different. The flavor itself is the same, but the richness of the citrus fruits feels lighter compared to MAXX. The Extra Strength is still delicious, but MAXX seems like an improved version.

MAXX has taken the citrusy base of Super Dry and refined it, adding a smooth, mellow texture and a more concentrated, fresh fruitiness. It’s definitely a more delicious version. Given that this series is known for its intense, punchy flavors, I think this is a welcome update, making the flavor richer and more robust.

Are There Any Differences in the Ingredients?

The major difference is the increase in caffeine content, now at 180mg, up from 160mg in the Extra Strength Super Dry.

As for the taste, MAXX has about 3g more sugar. The impact of this on the flavor is unclear, but I think they’ve adjusted the flavorings to give it a richer taste.

After comparing the two, I felt that the MAXX Super Dry is slightly more flavorful, with no change in the base citrus flavor. It’s clear that the flavor has been improved, and I think Super Dry will remain one of the top flavors in the Monster Energy lineup going forward.
