Upon opening, the aroma of citrus fruits like orange fills the air, with a rich fruitiness reminiscent of fruit flesh. The drink itself is the same fluorescent green color as the previously released SUPER DRY. It appears slightly foamy, which is due to the nitrogen gas. When poured gently into a glass, the foam forms into a frothy texture.

The flavor is a mix of citrus fruits like orange, lime, grapefruit, and lemon, with a distinct tartness.

Although there is no fruit juice, the rich umami and tartness of the fruit flesh linger on the tongue, and the bitterness and aroma of citrus peels fade in a remarkably authentic taste. While Monster Energy has fruit juice-infused drinks with global popularity, the NITRO SUPER DRY offers a unique flavor experience that stands apart.

I tried making it a little more frothy for fun. You've probably never seen an energy drink like this, have you!?

The creamy mouthfeel from the nitrogen gas is incredibly rich, providing a high level of satisfaction. This sense of "satisfaction" is on a different level than the typical energy drink experience of "punchy, bold, strong aroma, or lingering aftertaste."

Even the zero-sugar "MAXX" series from a generation ago had an impressively rich mouthfeel and umami. The NITRO series seems to have perfected the ultimate recipe, balancing taste and aroma for a superior experience.

After the rebranding from the "MONSTER ENERGY MAXX" series to "MONSTER ENERGY NITRO," it's unfortunate that only the SUPER DRY flavor remains. However, I’m glad to see the product has been upgraded to the standard 473ml size instead of the previous 355ml, which is sure to please many fans.

Products and Samples

Before its release, MONSTER ENERGY NITRO SUPER DRY had a sales sample available, and here’s a comparison between the two.

I decided to line them up for comparison. Since the taste is the same, there's no need for a taste test.

There are no differences in packaging, contents, or ingredients. The rich mouthfeel and strong aroma remain consistent in the final product.

Energy Ingredients of MONSTER ENERGY NITRO SUPER DRY

The energy ingredients include 160mg of caffeine, taurine, ginseng, maltodextrin, carnitine, and inositol, which make up a standard energy drink blend.

With 56g of carbohydrates, it has slightly more than some recent low-sugar trends, going against the current move towards sugar-free or low-carb drinks. Given the superb flavor, though, I think it's understandable. However, based on past releases, it's clear that the series can deliver intense flavors even without sugar, and I would love to see new flavors in the future.

Design of MONSTER ENERGY NITRO SUPER DRY

The combination of black and neon lime green gives a classic design. While recently, energy drinks have adopted flashy, story-driven designs, I personally love the simple, classic style of NITRO SUPER DRY. At first glance, it strikes me as an energy drink that screams excitement, reminiscent of the very essence of energy drinks.

Here it is alongside the previous series. Although the 355ml and 473ml sizes are the same height, it's a bit hard to notice the size increase.

From the "NITROUS MONSTER" series to the "Extra Strength" redesign, then to "MAXX," and finally back to the original "NITRO" concept in 2021, it feels like the series has returned to its roots.

In the past, the "MONSTER ENERGY SUPER DRY" logo was tilted diagonally, but now it’s placed upright, giving it a cleaner and simpler design, in line with other products.

When the 355ml version was on the shelves, it didn't get the best attention. Priced at around $2 for a smaller size, it had a slightly odd and niche feel compared to other Monster Energy products. The decision to make it a standalone product with the SUPER DRY flavor and increase the size to the standard 473ml makes sense now.

Nevertheless, after drinking it carefully and even chugging a little, I can say that the NITRO series is by far the most remarkable product from Monster Energy. It would be fantastic if they could release other NITRO flavors, even if just as limited-edition seasonal releases.
