When I opened it and took a sniff, I noticed a sweet aroma reminiscent of peach and pineapple... Wait, is something off? I had to take a sip quickly! Upon tasting, it was a sweet peach-flavored juice with a faint tea leaf aroma.

This is not the "bitter and refreshing green tea" that most Japanese people imagine. In America, you can choose whether to have sugar in your "green tea," and the Rehab Green Tea is a sweet, Americanized version of green tea, rather than a traditional Japanese green tea.

The green tea contains 4% pineapple and apple juice. It’s a sweet and refreshing fruity tea, and although it doesn’t taste much like traditional green tea, it’s fresh and delicious (๑´ڡ`๑).

This is the new, current MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA, released in February 2024.

When opened, it doesn’t smell like green tea but rather a fruity, refreshing fruit tea aroma. The new MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA has a more restrained fruit aroma compared to the old version.

When tasting it, it’s similar to the old MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA, but the fruity flavors are more toned down, making it feel like a crisper fruit tea flavor.

The bitterness, flavor, and fragrance of the green tea remain unchanged, but the fruity sweetness has been considerably reduced, resulting in a somewhat flat taste.

You might get bored of this flat taste, or on the other hand, you might find it easier to drink.

The old MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA contains 156mg of caffeine, taurine, ginseng, maltodextrin, inositol, guarana, quercetin, and carnitine. In addition to the energy ingredients, it also includes 4% juice from pineapple, apple, goji berries, and acai.

The new MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA has slightly changed energy ingredients, with 160mg of caffeine, taurine, ginseng, carnitine, inositol, and milk thistle. There’s no longer any mention of the juice content, but it includes goji berries, acai, and mangosteen, which explains the lighter fruit flavor compared to the previous version.

The green and blue design is eye-catching and evokes the image of green tea powder, but the taste is a fruity tea flavor that’s far removed from actual green tea. The shock that Japanese people experience when drinking Rehab Green Tea, especially considering we’re from the home of green tea, is something we all have in common (；´∀｀).

The gap between the intense green can design and the fresh, fruity flavor is noticeable, and the Rehab series often has a stark contrast between its design and flavor, for better or worse.

And here is the new design for MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA, released in 2024.

The Rehab series underwent a full redesign, adopting a simple, flat design, and MONSTER ENERGY Rehab GREEN TEA now has a single light green color to evoke the image of green tea.

With the new Rehab series, the energy poem has been removed, and functional icons have been added. Personally, I feel that this gives off a cheaper impression, and I’m not too fond of it.

Which design do you prefer? I personally liked the original design better, as it had a more edgy, mysterious vibe that felt more in line with Monster Energy. The new flat design is simpler and easier to understand, but it lacks the rich impression the old design had. Perhaps the impression could change if the surface finish included matte black and glossy green textures, which would add more attention to detail.
