MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA

Posted on September 20, 2018 | Last updated February 14, 2025

MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA
This is a review of the MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA, a new addition to the 2018 Rehab series, featuring a Chinese-style design with a dragon.

The design is completely different from the previous Rehab series releases. I wonder what it tastes like!?

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Expecting Disappointment, But If You're Tired of Energy Drinks, This Is Exactly What You Need

Upon opening, a refreshing, light fruity scent with a hint of sweetness fills the air. At this point, there is almost no tea scent at all.

When poured into a glass, it retains its transparency with a brownish hue. Unlike the flashy can design, the drink itself looks like a typical tea beverage, and it reassures me with the familiar Rehab series color (*´ェ`*)

Taking the first sip, I noticed that the tea flavor is almost absent, and instead, the refreshing sweetness of fruit tea and the vibrant fruit aroma dominate the taste.

As for the dragon fruit theme of this flavor, it’s hard to convey accurately because dragon fruit itself isn’t known for a strong, distinctive taste. But to put it simply, MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA tastes like a mix of light aloe, white grape, and even a hint of lychee.

As I continue drinking, I start to notice a faint tea flavor lingering after the initial taste, but the overall drink is light and refreshing, leaving behind very little aftertaste. This is a typical Rehab taste that’s clean and fruity, perfect when you’re looking for a break from stronger energy drink flavors.

It's a great option if you're feeling tired of the heavy, intense flavors of typical energy drinks and want something refreshing ( ´∀`)bツリ!

Dragon Fruit Tea

MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA
Although it's called "White Dragon Fruit Tea," the flavor of dragon fruit is subtle at best. Dragon fruit often doesn’t have a strong flavor to begin with, and in this drink, it’s pretty much the same. In fact, it perfectly matches the expression "the indescribable taste of dragon fruit."

I often encounter dragon fruit at breakfast buffets in hotels, and while the appearance is striking, the taste is usually quite mild, often with little to no sweetness or acidity.

Here's a photo I took at the Ritz-Carlton breakfast buffet, showing the dragon fruit on the right, with its deep purple color and many black seeds. Although it looks rich and vibrant, the taste is much milder than its appearance would suggest (^_^;)

When I go back for more fruit, I tend to avoid dragon fruit. It doesn’t seem worth the effort, so I end up grabbing more pineapple, melon, mango, or kiwi.

But when I went for a refill, the dragon fruit was nearly sold out! The tray at the back has the dragon fruit.

I thought it would be the least popular, but it turns out many people enjoyed its light, refreshing sweetness, and the kiwi-like seed crunch. As for me, I’m not particularly fond of it (;´∀`)

MONSTER ENERGY Rehab WHITE DRAGON TEA Energy Ingredients

With only 150mg of caffeine, it’s a pleasant surprise. Depending on the situation, even less caffeine might be preferable. It also contains taurine, ginseng, carnitine, and inositol in the typical Monster Energy blend.

Though the fruit juice content is only 4%, the drink seems to include various fruits, with white grape and apple being the base. It also contains tiny amounts of coconut water, red dragon fruit, acai, goji berries, and mangosteen.

The white can with a purple dragon design is the hallmark of the White Dragon Tea. It has that vibe that seems to appeal to Americans.

On the right side of the logo, you’ll see Chinese characters. From the perspective of people in East Asia, having Chinese characters on an energy drink can be a bit strange, but from a Western perspective, it might add an exotic touch.

The design of the White Dragon Tea is definitely a departure from the usual Rehab series. They’ve opted for a bold design choice.

Here’s the pre-release can (*´艸`*)

The can on the left is the pre-release version. It lacks the dragon and Chinese characters, and there are also differences in the text and color on the top. The left side has "ENERGY ICED TEA," which is the standard label from previous Rehab releases.

The surface of the pre-release can is smooth, just like the previous Rehab cans. I can imagine that the white color on the pre-release can was just an adaptation of the older Rehab designs. Both cans are from MCC.

The back of the can also mirrors the traditional black Rehab cans. The current design, on the other hand, is more elaborate, featuring decorations like those seen on the Mango Loco series. I’m particularly intrigued by the "Rehab the Beast" Chinese font, which gives the White Dragon Tea a more distinctive identity than previous Rehab designs.

By the way, as of August 2018 when I’m writing this, three SKU variations of this dragon-themed design have already been released, so it seems this design is here to stay.

The white top with a black tab looks simply beautiful (●´ω`●) I’d love to see a light purple tab in the future.
