In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of MONSTER ENERGY RESERVE WHITE PINEAPPLE
As the product name suggests, the sweet and sour pineapple aroma and the cloudy color immediately remind you of the taste of pineapple. You might wonder how it differs from past releases like M-80 or RIPPER. Let’s give it a try.
Upon tasting, it feels like drinking canned pineapple juice with a juicy flavor. The sweet and sour taste of pineapple, along with the syrupy sweetness and aroma from sugar-soaked fruit, provides a satisfying pineapple flavor.
While the first impression gives you a sense of fresh fruit, the aftertaste and lingering aroma are refreshing with just the right amount of aftertaste. It’s not an overly thick or rich juice, but rather, it offers a pleasant fruit texture that’s easy to drink. This is great!
To my surprise, when I checked the label, it turns out there’s no fruit juice! The deliciousness of the pineapple juice without any actual fruit juice is quite surprising. Like Red Bull’s Edition series, which also strives for deliciousness without fruit juice, you might be inclined to compare it with the Edition series.
Furthermore, at 120 kcal per can and only 32g of sugar, the sugar content is relatively low. It has enough body to it, yet the flavor doesn’t cling too heavily, which probably has something to do with its lower sugar content.
Comparison Between Product and Sample Versions
The sales sample of RESERVE WHITE PINEAPPLE before its release differs from the final product. So, I tried them side by side for a proper comparison.
I was surprised to notice the color difference when poured into a glass. The product version has a stronger impression of rich pineapple pulp, whereas the sales sample has a lighter feel.
Though both versions have the same pineapple flavor, the richness of the pineapple taste differs significantly.
The product version stands out for its rich pineapple pulp and syrup-like sweetness. In contrast, the sales sample has more of an artificial flavor, with less of the fruitiness and a stronger taste of no fruit juice.
It seems that they added more pineapple pulp flavor during the transition from the sample to the final product. Perhaps there was an effort to make it even better before the official release?
The flavor is different, so the ingredient composition varies, but the base of RESERVE remains sugar-free with low sugar content.
Energy Ingredients of MONSTER ENERGY RESERVE WHITE PINEAPPLE
Contains 160 mg of caffeine, taurine, ginseng, carnitine, inositol, and maltodextrin. It’s a pretty standard Monster energy blend.
Design of MONSTER ENERGY RESERVE WHITE PINEAPPLE
A classic design with a black base and yellow Monster Energy logo. This stands in stark contrast to the more flashy recent Monster Energy designs. Even the design of the final product still has a sample-like vibe to it.
The yellow lines, featuring the Monster logo and the product name at the bottom of the can, are the only parts with a rough texture.
This is interesting because it’s the opposite of the Ultra series. It’s a bit surprising and enjoyable to see the final product with a new texture, something you don’t realize until you hold the can after the design label is wrapped on the sales samples before the release.
The tab is yellow, reminiscent of M-80, matching the can color.
I had initially expected it to be discontinued only in the U.S., but I was surprised to see it released in many countries in 2022. Given the superb flavor, I believe it will be well-received anywhere.
