In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Gentle Citrus Tropical Fruit-Like Flavor
The light, bright light blue color is surprising coming from the black bottle. Most people probably expected a deeper, darker blue!
Upon tasting, the flavor is a tropical fruit mix with citrus fruits, which is hard to imagine from the light blue color. It's a mildly sweet flavor with a gentle tang, making it a very easy-to-drink sports drink flavor that you can finish without noticing. The aftertaste is refreshing, and the lingering scent adds to the experience, making it a well-rounded, high-quality product for a sports drink.
However, it's hard to pinpoint the exact flavor of Blue Streak because the light blue color and taste don't quite match. Close your eyes and savor the flavor slowly (*´艸`*).
What sets this apart is the large, wide mouth of the bottle, which is bigger than typical Japanese bottles, allowing you to fully enjoy the aroma as you drink. This feature is a signature of Monster Energy Super Fuel.
The Japanese version also features this large mouth, which makes drinking from the bottle feel just like the American-style sports drinks, reminding you of Gatorade and similar drinks. Anyone who's had those drinks will surely agree!
Energy Ingredients of Monster Energy Super Fuel Blue Streak (Japan)
It contains 148.5mg of caffeine, 181.5mg of valine, 363mg of leucine, and 181.5mg of isoleucine. This sports drink is enriched with BCAAs (Branched-Chain Amino Acids) and caffeine.
Even though the caffeine content is not very high for a 550ml bottle, the flavor is so easy to drink that it's perfect for hydration. However, if you're drinking multiple bottles during exercise, be mindful of the caffeine intake.
Design of Monster Energy Super Fuel Blue Streak (Japan)
The design features a black label with a blue, three-dimensional Monster Energy logo, giving it a dynamic energy drink vibe. In the U.S., this product is part of the "Hydro Series," but in Japan, it’s simply labeled "Blue Streak" with no Hydro designation. Along with the red "Red Dawg" flavor, only these two versions were released.
Comparing Japanese and American Blue Streak
Since the American version of Blue Streak also exists, let's take a look at the design differences between the Japanese and U.S. versions.
On the left is the Japanese version, and on the right is the American version of Blue Streak.
When compared with the U.S. version, the Japanese version lacks the "Hydro" label and instead features the MONSTER logo.
On the left side of the Super Fuel label, a silhouette of a runner has been added, clearly indicating that it’s a sports drink, not a typical energy drink. This helps convey that Monster Energy is branching into sports drinks in Japan, a concept that's quite unfamiliar here.
On the back, the functional logos are displayed, but the large Japanese text feels a bit out of place. It might have been better to keep all text in English or make the font size for "BCAA" consistent.
In the U.S., Monster Energy has recently introduced a wide variety of colorful sports drinks, so when you visit the U.S., be sure to look for them!
The Japanese release of Super Fuel Blue Streak was released with a design and bottle shape that closely resemble the American version, making it a great match. The wide mouth of the bottle really sets it apart from typical Japanese sports drinks, offering a unique drinking experience. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy Monster Energy Super Fuel!

味はこのシリーズの「レッド」とそこまで変わらない気がします。これも、運動後には美味しいと思うのですが、特になにもないときに飲むとそこまで美味しくないと思います。アクエリアスと一緒です。
