This is a review of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA BLACK, released in 2014. The black and silver combination gives it a luxurious and dark vibe.

I purchased it right after its release in Los Angeles. The taste is so remarkable that it’s hard to believe it’s sugar-free, and every time I drink it, the taste brings back vivid memories of Los Angeles from back then.

The color of the Ultra Black can is a dark purple, matching the color of blackberry. When exposed to sunlight, it brightens to a reddish-purple. It's simply beautiful (●´ω｀●).

When opening it, the sweet berry-like aroma bursts out. After pouring, the aroma from the glass wasn’t as strong.

When you actually drink Ultra Black, it’s a sweet berry-like jam with no real acidity typical of fruits. The sweetness isn’t heavy, and the refreshing taste leaves almost no aftertaste, making it very clean.

The carbonation makes the rich flavor feel refreshing, and it’s quite delicious. If you like berry-flavored energy drinks, the taste is satisfying, and the clean aftertaste means you’ll easily finish the 473ml can.

Zero Calories, Zero Sugar

With such a rich taste and this can design, you might forget that Ultra Black has zero calories and zero sugar.

All the flavors in the red, blue, and white cans have a very strong taste and color, so even if it’s labeled as a zero-calorie energy drink, you might not realize it. Especially with Ultra Black, given its color and taste, it’s almost surprising that it’s zero.

The caffeine content is 140mg, the same as the other Ultra series. The overall quality is impressively high again.

The Monster Energy Ultra series is known for its elaborate can designs. Naturally, Ultra Black also has a textured surface, with the Monster logo and decorations reflecting off it.

Unlike the other series, Ultra Black has silver decorations with red lines. At first, I thought the new design for the other Ultra cans would include color changes, but only Ultra Black features red.

When it was released in 2014, the design was quite special compared to the three existing Ultra flavors. This uniqueness was further enhanced in 2015, with more red added to the base black and silver engraving, giving it a more “dracula” feel (*´艸｀*).

Ultra Black actually holds a special place within the Ultra series. It’s the only one with a three-color scheme—black, silver, and red. After its release, the other Ultra drinks, like Citron, Sunrise, and Violet, only have a base color and silver, which makes Ultra Black stand out as quite unique.
