In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA CITRON

When opening the can, a strong citrus scent with a bitter undertone wafts out. The aroma itself is not overpowering, but it subtly suggests bitterness. At this point, I could already tell something was different...

When I take a sip, it is much sweeter than the aroma would suggest. If you don't chill it too much, the sweetness feels especially rich. The flavor is very close to lemonade, and you could almost say it tastes just like it, but the citrusy zest in the aroma adds a refreshing note, making it feel quite light.

When chilled, the refreshing taste becomes even more prominent. This subtle scent, combined with the light carbonation, blends perfectly with the overall sweetness. Personally, I would recommend enjoying it at room temperature or not chilling it too much (●´ω`●).

If it's too cold, the artificial sweetener taste becomes stronger, and this is a point where preferences may vary. A common issue with zero-calorie drinks is how to make the sweetness feel more natural. In the case of Ultra Citron, I feel that its balance is best appreciated at room temperature. When chilled, the sweetness and refreshing taste, which harmonize so well, seem to fade. At this point, you won't feel the artificial sweetener’s aftertaste much.

Energy Ingredients of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA CITRON

It contains 152mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, guarana, ginseng, carnitine, and other Monster Energy blends. The main artificial sweetener is erythritol, followed by acesulfame potassium, and the tartness is likely balanced with citric acid.

Design of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA CITRON

MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA CITRON
The can design is inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead. The Ultra series always has a rough texture, and it looks and feels great, but this one is the first to have such a clear motif. The connection to Ultra Citron is a bit unclear, though...

MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA CITRON
On the skulls and faces seen drinking Monster, you can spot the Monster logo everywhere, making it fun to look at. Large citrus fruits are also printed among the flowers, perfectly complementing the fresh vibe of Ultra Citron.
