In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Monster Energy Ultra Paradise (Japan)

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
The liquid inside matches the image of the lime-green can, with a calm yet vibrant lime-green color. When poured into a glass, a sweet and tangy fruity aroma fills the air.

Upon taking a sip, a refreshing and tangy kiwi flavor spreads across the palate. Unlike a weak and watered-down taste, it has a surprisingly rich and satisfying depth.

The mild sweetness and fragrance create a strong presence that doesn’t feel like a zero-calorie, zero-sugar drink. The kiwi’s tartness adds an accent, resulting in a flavorful and enjoyable fruity experience.

With a subtle lingering aftertaste and aroma, it’s easy to forget that this is a zero-zero energy drink. If someone drank it without knowing, most people wouldn’t realize it’s sugar-free and calorie-free. (^_^;)

There’s absolutely no cheap artificial sweetener taste or off-putting bitterness. Moreover, it doesn’t rely on the signature Ultra series flavor to mask the zero-sugar aspect—it's just that well-made. The combination of sweet and tangy fruity flavors is satisfying, making this drink nearly perfect.

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
Since this product was released in summer, I tried it with plenty of ice, and the mellow kiwi sweetness remained intact. It’s an ideal flavor for quenching thirst under the blazing summer sun.

While it doesn’t quite capture the full fruitiness or pulp-like texture of real kiwi juice, its refreshing and flavorful profile makes it a great summer release. Compared to real fruit juice-based drinks, Ultra Paradise stands out as a well-balanced and refreshing option.

Energy Ingredients of Monster Energy Ultra Paradise (Japan)

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
Contains 142mg of caffeine, 188mg of arginine, 291mg of ginseng, 102mg of carnitine, and guarana.

Design of Monster Energy Ultra Paradise (Japan)

The design follows the same style as the U.S. version. The can features the Ultra series' signature rough texture and a silver-etched design.

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
It depicts a tranquil tropical beach with footprints in the sand, distant mountains, and palm trees.

On the other side, you can see the sun rising behind the mountains—truly a paradise.

Due to Japan’s slimmer 355ml can, some parts of the original design are cut off. So, let’s compare it with the U.S. version to see the full design.

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise: Taste & Design Comparison by Country

Here are the Japanese, U.S., and Australian versions side by side.
Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
Each country has different can sizes—355ml, 473ml, and 500ml, respectively—with slight differences in taste and design. Let’s compare them.

Taste Comparison

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
Compared to the Japanese version, the U.S. Ultra Paradise has a milder fruity sweetness, making it feel lighter in taste. Since the U.S. version is already designed to be light and refreshing, this difference in sweetness may come down to personal preference.

The Australian version has the lightest color among the three but has the strongest aroma, making it exciting even before taking a sip. The taste is slightly bolder than the U.S. version, with a sweet and tangy balance similar to the Japanese version.

After trying both, the Japanese Ultra Paradise stands out as the juiciest and most flavorful. Personally, I prefer the Japanese version the most.

Design Comparison

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
The basic design is the same across all versions. However, in Australia, the palm tree near the Monster Energy logo is altered to look windblown, possibly to avoid overlapping with the logo. The trunk is also shorter, showcasing small regional design differences.

One major difference in the Japanese version is the missing toucan holding a swimsuit in its beak.
Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
Since Japan’s slimmer can design cuts off part of the artwork, the toucan is entirely absent, which is a bit disappointing.

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
On the Australian version’s back, there's a large bird spreading its wings, which isn't as visible on the U.S. or Japanese versions.

Here’s a close-up view:
Monster Energy Ultra Paradise
While the bird appears on both the U.S. and Japanese versions, it’s hard to tell if it’s meant to be a bird with outstretched wings. These subtle design and taste variations make comparisons interesting.

After trying all three, I found the Japanese Ultra Paradise to be the most delicious and well-balanced. For those looking for a calorie-free and sugar-free energy drink, this might be the best option available in Japan.

Ultra Paradise Recall & Re-release

As reported in Japan, Ultra Paradise was recalled on December 8, 2020, due to an incorrect food coloring label, leading to its removal from store shelves.
Monster Energy Ultra Paradise Recall
The Japanese version contains Yellow No. 4 and Blue No. 1, but the label mistakenly listed Yellow No. 5 and Blue No. 1, which are the U.S. colorings directly translated into Japanese.

Once Ultra Paradise disappeared from stores, many people posted online about how they couldn’t find it anymore.

Finally, on April 20, 2021, it was re-released with a redesigned label.

The new can features the “ZERO SUGAR” branding on top, similar to recent global updates.

Monster Energy Ultra Paradise Re-release
The ingredient label was corrected to display the proper food coloring. Since the recall was due to a labeling error and not an issue with the drink itself, the contents remained unchanged.

Recalled cans were not discarded but were instead given away as samples with corrected stickers over the original labels.

If you look closely, you can see the sticker’s edges. Since recalled products cannot be restocked, this was likely a last resort.
