In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA SUNRISE

When you open it, a gentle citrusy orange fragrance with a hint of acidity fills the air. The scent isn't overpowering, just subtly present.

The first sip reveals the sweetness of orange. Since it's the first sip, the flavor evolves from here. This sweetness is not like the Japanese mikan, but more like Valencia orange. Before its release, some speculated that it might have a flavor similar to Orangina, but it isn't that strong.

As you continue drinking, the sweetness fades and you begin to feel more of the tartness. This acidity becomes the main flavor.

Surprisingly, it has a strong citrusy tartness, but it doesn't have the sharp citric acid that would make your throat feel sore. If you chill it well, the sweetness diminishes further, and you can enjoy the characteristic orange acidity more.

The orange fragrance that lingers in your nose as you drink gives a subtle sweetness, creating a balanced flavor with the tartness. On the other hand, it could also be described as a very ordinary orange juice without much impact. (´・ω・`)

MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA SUNRISE Creates a Delicious Orange Flavor with Artificial Sweeteners

I mentioned that it was an ordinary orange flavor, but in reality, it achieves a remarkable feat of being zero-calorie and sugar-free, using artificial sweeteners. And yet, it manages to create a flavor and aroma almost identical to regular orange juice.

The slight cloudiness or powderiness is part of the intended effect. It's common to reduce transparency and create cloudiness, but if they intentionally used this “pulp” to bring out the orange juice essence, Monster Energy really nailed it! (●´ω`●)

...Though it could just be ingredient sediment. (laughs)

Energy Ingredients of MONSTER ENERGY ULTRA SUNRISE

Using artificial sweeteners like sucralose, it achieves zero calories and zero sugar. It contains 151mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, ginseng, guarana, carnitine, and other energy-boosting ingredients. Overall, I think it has a very drinkable mix of ingredients.

Not Quite What I Expected?

Given the name "Ultra Sunrise," the bright orange color, and the refreshing design, I expected a sharper, more invigorating flavor. However, it turned out to be a much milder flavor than I imagined, and it didn’t quite match my expectations before drinking it. Personally, it’s not a flavor that I crave, so I don’t feel the need to repurchase it.

That said, as a zero-calorie, zero-sugar energy drink, it does an excellent job. That much is certain.
