In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Artificial Sweetener Off-Putting Flavor Zero, The Definitive Zero Classic Flavor
Upon opening, the sweet aroma of Monster Energy wafts through the air. Just the scent alone is enough to tell that someone nearby has opened a Monster Energy drink without even needing to see where or what it is.
Upon taking a sip, a rich, mellow sweetness and tartness spread, creating a classic flavor profile. It's hard to believe this full-bodied taste comes with zero sugar...
The scent lingers more than you’d expect from a zero-zero product, offering a satisfying experience. There's no cheap, unpleasant taste from artificial sweeteners, and the tartness is surprisingly absent, making it a remarkable choice.
If you were to drink Monster Energy Zero Sugar without prior knowledge, I think most people wouldn’t realize it's a zero-zero drink.
Having tried numerous previous editions of Absolut Zero, both domestically and internationally, the taste has remained intact without any degradation despite the transition to zero. I'm always impressed by how well they've managed this. Every time I take a sip, the initial impression is the same. It’s remarkable that a zero drink can avoid the usual zero taste, even after all these years (^_^;)
Monster Energy Zero Sugar feels a bit lighter compared to the sweetened original, with a slightly more refreshing impression. However, for the average consumer who isn't a heavy user, the difference likely won’t be noticeable, or they might not even detect it.
For those who want a crisp, refreshing drink with zero sugar, it may still feel a bit strong, but for those who want to enjoy the classic Monster Energy flavor while avoiding sugar, this is an excellent choice.
Energy Ingredients of Monster Energy Zero Sugar (Japan)
Contains 142mg of caffeine, 443mg of arginine, 301mg of ginseng, and 102mg of carnitine. Plus, it’s zero calories and zero sugar, which is great.
By the way, while the product name has changed to Zero Sugar, the ingredients remain the same as the old Absolut Zero.
Design of Monster Energy Zero Sugar (Japan)
The design is almost identical to the old Absolut Zero. The new "Zero Sugar" label is much more recognizable for casual energy drink consumers compared to the old "Absolutely Zero."
The top now says "Zero Sugar," in line with the product name, replacing the previous "Sugar-Free."
Subtle markings indicate "Zero Calories, Zero Sugar." From various angles, it’s now much clearer that this is a zero-zero product.
For reference, the original Absolut Zero design when it first launched in Japan was very simple. Over time, the design evolved into a more bold and striking style, leading to the current Monster Energy Zero Sugar.
Personally, I'm Excited About the Rise of Zero-Zero Products
As of 2021, there are three Zero-Calorie, Zero-Sugar Monster Energy flavors available in Japan.
Recently, I’ve been paying more attention to my daily calorie and carb intake, so the growing variety of zero-zero products is something I’m really happy about.
Moreover, all of Monster Energy’s zero-zero options have successfully eliminated the unpleasant taste of artificial sweeteners, which I highly appreciate. Of course, Monster Energy Zero Sugar also has a fantastic flavor.
What’s particularly impressive about Monster Energy Zero Sugar is that it has successfully transitioned to zero without sacrificing the original flavor.
While the cringe-worthy poem content (which always makes me laugh) might seem over the top, it’s not entirely wrong.
Personally, I’ve been drinking more zero-sugar, zero-calorie products lately, not just energy drinks, so I’m really glad to see more delicious zero-zero options emerging. Monster Energy Zero Sugar made me want to buy it in bulk again.

やはりカロリーゼロ、砂糖ゼロということでアブゼロと変わりません。舌残りが強く、サラッと飲めません。舌残りを気にしない人は大丈夫だとは思いますが、気にする人にはおすすめできないと思います。
