NITROUS MONSTER SUPER DRY
This is a review of "NITROUS MONSTER SUPER DRY," from the NITROUS MONSTER series, released in 2009.
It is from the period just before the Extra Strength series, about six months before the end of the NITROUS series in 2010. The product has significantly deteriorated over time (Σ(´∀`;)).

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of NITROUS MONSTER SUPER DRY
Upon opening, a strong citrusy bitterness fills the air. Even though it's been about five years since its production, this scent is still quite intense (^_^;)
The color is a beautiful light green, and even after five years since its production in 2015, no noticeable degradation is observed. However, the unique nitrogen bubbles are absent, leaving it with a thick consistency instead.
Upon tasting, unlike the Extra Strength version, the bitterness of the citrus flavor is more pronounced, and due to the flavor change from deterioration, the refreshing fruitiness is no longer present. If it had been 1–2 years after production, I think it could have maintained the same deliciousness as the current Super Dry, but five years was a bit too long (^_^;)
Compared to the fully sealed pull tabs, I feel that the twist top leads to faster degradation when left for over five years.
Energy Ingredients of NITROUS MONSTER SUPER DRY
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 400mg of ginseng, and other ingredients such as carnitine, guarana, and mate tea leaves. The Monster Energy Blend is a massive 5000mg. The slight bitterness might be from the mate tea, or perhaps it’s just the result of deterioration...
Comparison with Extra Strength
Now let’s compare! Or so I’d like to say, but actually, this Extra Strength Super Dry was also from just after its release, not too far apart from the Nitrous, both about five years old, and both likely subjected to the fast degradation speed due to the twist top... Please read this comparison review with that in mind (;´∀`)
When poured into a glass, both have similar color and consistency, with no significant difference, and the scent is still strong, so both are impressive!
As mentioned earlier, the Nitrous version shows more bitterness and flavor degradation, but the Extra Strength version didn’t show much degradation and allowed me to enjoy a tangy lime-citrus flavor. It seems that even small changes in the ingredients have a significant impact on the taste.
The can design has changed with the series, so of course, they differ, but even with Extra Strength, the "Nitrous Technology" label, which highlights the Nitrous feature of the product, was added.
However, despite the product and concept being almost the same, it’s unclear why the series name was changed...
