The black-and-pink PUNCH MIXXD was followed by this pink PUNCH MIXXD. Until 2019, both versions were sold across various EU countries, with availability differing by region. Eventually, the pink can became the standard, which is the one reviewed here.

Flavor of PUNCH MONSTER MIXXD

Upon opening, a subtle fruity punch aroma emerges. Compared to a classic fruit punch, the scent is more restrained.

Taking a sip, a mild and smooth fruit punch flavor spreads across the palate.

Gradually, the sweetness of banana, apple, and mango becomes more noticeable, revealing a tropical fruit blend rather than a straightforward fruit punch flavor. The more you drink, the more you appreciate its fruity sweetness.

Unlike artificially enhanced, bold fruit punches, this one is more subtle. It’s best enjoyed slowly to fully savor its fruity depth.

As mentioned in my review of the black-and-pink PUNCH MIXXD released in 2017, this drink is incredibly smooth when chilled. However, if it’s too cold, the tropical fruit sweetness gets muted, so a slightly milder chill brings out the best flavors.

If you expect a traditional fruit punch flavor, PUNCH MIXXD might feel a bit underwhelming. In terms of the typical "punch" taste, it may not stand out as much.

Energy Ingredients of PUNCH MONSTER MIXXD

Contains 160mg of caffeine, 250mg of arginine, and 20mg of carnitine. Unlike many energy drinks, it does not include taurine but instead features arginine, which is more common in Japan.

It also has 5.3% juice content, featuring apple, cherry, mango, and banana—identical in composition and ratio to the black PUNCH MIXXD.

At the bottom of the can, there’s a microphone. The earlier black-and-pink MIXXD followed the American design with boxing gloves, while this pink version took a unique approach, suggesting it was developed independently.

Comparing Black-and-Pink vs. Pink PUNCH MIXXD

Ideally, comparing the same product from the same country would be best, but for this review, I compared a UK black-and-pink MIXXD with a Hungarian pink MIXXD.

The colors are identical, and both have the same fruit punch aroma.

After several tastings, I found no significant difference in flavor. While the Hungarian version has 3g more sugar, it’s within a margin that the human palate likely wouldn’t detect. Both contain the same 5.3% juice composition.

The sweet punch aroma, combined with banana and mango notes and a refreshing apple finish, makes it easy to drink—even a full liter goes down smoothly. A regular fruit punch would feel overwhelming in such quantity.

Despite their similar names and nearly identical contents, the different can colors and designs make them feel like entirely different products to consumers. However, they are essentially the same drink. The UK black-and-pink MIXXD also transitioned to pink in 2020, solidifying this design across the EU.

Classic black-based designs have their appeal, but Monster Energy has been leaning towards more vibrant styles. Given the music-inspired elements in the pink MIXXD, the shift makes perfect sense.
