In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Sour Apple with Sweet and Rich Tang
Opening the can releases a strong apple-like scent, resembling a green apple flavor.
Upon tasting, the flavor is a tangy and sweet sour apple with a juicy and rich taste of apple flesh.
Unlike just sour apple, this flavor offers a rich, sweet-and-sour taste with a savory element, making it easy to drink the entire 500ml without getting bored.
Interestingly, this sweet-and-sour flavor is quite similar to the V Energy Original, though Mother GREEN STORM has a stronger apple flavor. The base of the sweet-and-sour taste seems to be inspired by V Energy, though it's not exactly the same.
As I researched for this review, I began to understand why Mother GREEN STORM tastes similar to V Energy Original. I'll explain that in more detail later, so be sure to read on—it’s quite interesting.
Energy Ingredients of Mother GREEN STORM
This drink contains 158mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, and guarana.
The back label didn't provide many details, but the front logo mentions "natural caffeine," which might refer to something like green coffee bean extract. Other Mother series drinks don't mention "natural caffeine."
Design of Mother GREEN STORM
The design of this can differs from previous Mother Energy series, with a green base and jagged top. At first, I thought it might be inspired by a tree.
The main green pattern is made up of small "M" shapes, which looks stylish.
As I mentioned before, the taste is reminiscent of V Energy Original...
If you flip the can upside down, the top part forms a "V." This unique design of Mother GREEN STORM, which uses a green color similar to V Energy's, may have been intentionally designed to resemble the letter "V."
Upon further investigation, I learned that in 2012, V Energy attempted to trademark the color known as "V GREEN," but Coca-Cola opposed the registration, and four years later, the trademark application was rejected. It seems that Mother GREEN STORM, released in 2013, might have been designed as a subtle jab at V Energy.
If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be surprising that Mother GREEN STORM, with its flavor similar to V Energy Original and its unique design, was created as a "flipped V" design.
