"Pitch Black" is a historic flavor that was first released in 2004 by the Mountain Dew brand in the United States. It was later released in limited quantities worldwide and has been re-released several times, making it a popular flavor.

And now, in January 2023, it made its debut as part of the energy drink line "MTN DEW ENERGY," which branches off from the main Mountain Dew brand.

Since MTN DEW ENERGY has a different ingredient composition from regular Mountain Dew, I’m excited to review what kind of flavor it delivers.

It doesn't taste cheap or lack flavor; instead, the taste and aroma are well-balanced, offering a satisfying grape flavor.

At the same time, there’s no lingering residue, no chemical taste, and it's easy to drink smoothly. The drinkability is surprisingly smooth, which contrasts with its deep color.

While the original Pitch Black from the regular Mountain Dew series is a full-sugar type, MTN DEW ENERGY series are all low-sugar and low-calorie, giving a very different drinking experience from the original.

For those who expect an intense and bold taste from an energy drink, it might feel like a letdown. However, for fans of the MTN DEW ENERGY concept, this offers the same light and smooth flavor that the series is known for.

Caffeine 180mg. The carbohydrate content is only 5g, with no added sugars, and contains 5% white grape juice.

In line with the current trend in the American energy drink market, the sugar-free and 25kcal commonality in the series is a personal win.

The 2023 Pitch Black was released in two versions: a bottle and a can, with a Zero Sugar option available.

Every design element gives off an even darker, more "cringe-worthy" vibe than past Pitch Blacks, making it an interesting choice.

The black, purple, and green colors in the list of ingredients on the back give it a galaxy-like feel, which is pretty cool.

Both the Mountain Dew and energy drink versions of Pitch Black are limited edition, so once they’re gone from the shelves, they’re gone. The MTN DEW ENERGY series doesn't have a high market share, so finding it can be quite challenging. I was lucky to spot it in a random supermarket.

Mountain Dew has brought Pitch Black back several times, so it’s possible that MTN DEW ENERGY will also update the design and release it again in the future.
