MUSASHI ENERGY PURPLE GRAPE
The long-established Australian supplement manufacturer MUSASHI launched its energy drink series "MUSASHI ENERGY" in July 2021 with three flavors released simultaneously. This time, I will review MUSASHI ENERGY PURPLE GRAPE.
While supplement manufacturers in the United States have been rapidly entering the energy drink market, Australia has also seen a rise in energy drink brands originating from supplement companies.
The MUSASHI ENERGY series is known for offering exceptional taste among fitness-oriented energy drinks, and I’m excited to try the MUSASHI ENERGY PURPLE GRAPE as well.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of MUSASHI ENERGY PURPLE GRAPE
Upon opening the can, a real grape scent spreads, blending with a stronger aroma of grape gummies or gum. The MUSASHI ENERGY series has an impressive ability to recreate realistic flavors despite being sugar-free, but with grape, it might be a bit challenging... Let's take a sip.
When I take a sip, the flavor of smooth, mildly sweet and sour grape spreads across my mouth.
I thought it might be tough to recreate the grape flavor without sugar, but then, after a brief delay, the juicy, sweet and sour flavor of grape flesh gradually fills my mouth. The flavor of the fruit's flesh and even its skin can be felt, delivering a real grape flavor.
No matter how many times I drink it, it starts with a gentle sweet taste, but after 4-5 seconds, the refreshing taste of grape flesh bursts in my mouth, releasing a fragrant and rich flavor. This sensation is something I've never experienced before.
While there are many grape-flavored drinks without fruit juice that taste good, I have never had an energy drink that is sugar-free and without fruit juice yet still has this level of flavor and authenticity.
With such a high level of quality throughout the series, I'm really curious about the person who developed these flavors and what kinds of drinks they've worked on in the past. As an energy drink enthusiast, I can't help but be intrigued.
Energy Ingredients of MUSASHI ENERGY PURPLE GRAPE
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 1600mg of beta-alanine, 1000mg of BCAA, 300mg of acetyl-L-tyrosine, and 3000mg of citrulline.
The caffeine content of 160mg is not too high for a fitness-type energy drink, which I personally find to be just the right amount for ease of drinking.
Beta-alanine works to reduce muscle fatigue and maintain endurance. If you take it, you may experience a tingling sensation known as the beta-alanine flush, but this is a normal reaction and there's no need to worry about it.
Tyrosine helps in the production of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and dopamine, while citrulline is an amino acid that generates arginine, contributing to muscle pumps.
Design of MUSASHI ENERGY PURPLE GRAPE
The can has a matte black finish with a purple samurai, exuding a cringe-worthy design.
The brand name "MUSASHI" comes from the famous Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Since its establishment in 1987 in Australia, the company has been producing a wide range of supplements.
Other supplements from MUSASHI do not feature the silhouette of a samurai, but only their energy drinks have this imagery. It seems that energy drinks globally share the common association with that "cringe-worthy" feel.
Moreover, the MUSASHI ENERGY series is usually sold at a very high price in supplement stores. However, when I saw it for the first time in a major supermarket, I was surprised at its price.
At that time, it was on sale for just 2 AUD, while in stores, it could easily cost around 6 AUD. If you're on the hunt in Australia, it seems wise to target the supermarkets first and then head to fitness supplement stores for any additional items.
