The new Raizin will be released on April 7th, 2015!
Raizin was one of the first domestic energy drinks in mini cans to hit the market, making a strong presence in convenience stores and even airing TV commercials.
Now, it’s getting a fresh new look with a 250ml can and will be released on April 7, 2015.
Previously, it was sold under the name *Raizin Japan*, but now it seems Taisho Pharmaceutical is taking full charge.
The official website has also been redirected to Taisho Pharmaceutical’s product page.
And the site looks pretty cool.
TV Commercial Airing Alongside the April 7 Release
The new Raizin will be released on April 7, and at the same time, a TV commercial featuring Kazuya Kamenashi from Johnny's will be aired.
It looks like they’re putting quite a bit of effort into this launch.
Kamenashi was chosen for the commercial because his character, constantly challenging himself in various fields, aligns with Raizin’s image of *bringing energy, courage, and vitality to those who drink it.*
Personally, I think the can design is pretty good, and moving to a 250ml can was a great decision.
A mini can of 185ml or 190ml priced at 200 yen is quite hard to justify, but with a 250ml can, it finally feels like it’s on the same level as other energy drinks.
And with this design, I think a lot of people will be willing to give it a try.
Hoping for Long-Term Success
Since this is a rebranded launch, they’re putting in a lot of effort initially, but I’m curious about how they will continue developing it.
Many domestic energy drinks from major companies start off with an impressive push, but then fizzle out quickly afterward. (;´∀`)
This new Raizin seems to have a proper energy drink vibe with its theme and celebrity endorsement, unlike the previous version.
So, I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs. ((o(´∀`)o))
Curious About the Flavor
Looking at the product details, here are some key ingredients:
- High-fructose corn syrup
- Ginger extract
- Inositol
- Caffeine
- Spice extract
- Niacin
- Vitamin B2
- Vitamin B6
As expected from the official website’s description of it as a *spicy energy drink*, ginger extract is heavily included.
This might be intense—Energy Drinkun might not be able to handle it.
The can is 250ml and will be priced at 190 yen (excluding tax).
It will be available nationwide in convenience stores starting April 7.
With the new can design and all, I think I’ll give it a try.

After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
