Launch of the smart energy drink, Concentrated Regain and Super Concentrated Regain 200

Posted on June 24, 2015 | Last updated February 20, 2025

Brainy Energy Drink, Chugging Regain and Super Chugging Regain 200 Released
A new product from Regain Energy Drink, "Chugging Regain" and "Super Chugging Regain 200," will be released. This time, it seems to be designed as an energy drink for the brain. Perhaps it's being released in anticipation of the upcoming exam season!?

Release date: Tuesday, August 4, 2015
Chugging Regain 190ml, 190 yen (excluding tax), Super Chugging Regain 200, 100ml bottle can, 270 yen (excluding tax). The Super Chugging Regain 200 is a bit expensive (^_^;)

By the way, the current Regain Energy Drink and Regain Energy Drink 2000 will be discontinued once stocks run out.

Chugging Regain Review here

Teanine, Caffeine, and Arginine Infused Chugging Regain

A characteristic of Chugging Regain is the inclusion of theanine, which is abundant in green tea. Theanine is known for its relaxing effects and is said to also help with mental concentration. According to the official description of Chugging Regain, it is designed to enhance concentration by keeping you relaxed without excessive tension, while maintaining motivation. It aims to create a flavor that encourages focus. Let's try it when it’s available to see what it tastes like!

The can design and color look quite clean and nice, I think.

On the other hand, "Super Chugging Regain 200" contains double the amount of theanine, 200mg, and comes in a 100ml shot-style bottle. It contains carbonated ingredients, so it may feel similar to the concentrated M3.

Brainy Energy Drink

Regain is strongly associated with nutritional drinks, and many people search for it expecting specific health benefits. It seems that the manufacturer is aware of this, as the new product is being marketed as a "brainy energy drink" designed specifically to enhance concentration.

However, it’s starting to blur the line between energy drinks and something else (;´∀`)
Could it be that high-priced juices are now commonly marketed as energy drinks, making this type of launch feel natural?

By the way, DHC’s theanine supplements contain 120mg per serving, so perhaps drinking "Chugging Regain" will give you a similar feeling to taking a supplement: “I’ll drink Chugging Regain and power through today!” However, since theanine tends to have a relaxing effect, you might not feel the intense energy boost you get from other energy drinks. (´∀`;)

Regain Pricing is Consistent

The regular Chugging Regain is priced at 190 yen, and Super Chugging Regain 200 at 270 yen, which is in line with Regain’s pricing model. The inclusion of numbers in the product names, similar to the taurine amounts in nutritional drinks, brings to mind the previous Regain Energy Drink 2000.

Regain seems to be carving out its own niche in the energy drink market. Given that nutritional drinks are already popular in Japan, this pricing model may make sense, but it will be interesting to see where they stand in a year.

Even with sales, when Regain Energy Drink is sold for as low as 22 or 23 yen, it can be difficult to make a purchase decision Σ(´∀`;)

Meanwhile, Regain Energy Drink is Discontinued

Despite the launch of Chugging Regain, it turns out that Regain Energy Drink will be discontinued in favor of Chugging Regain. (I have confirmed this with Suntory as an energy drink enthusiast.)

According to sankei.com, it didn’t quite catch on.
Chugging Regain
In fact, the massive discounting and clearance of stock may have been due to excess inventory that prevented product replacement. I thought it would be hard for it to become a popular energy drink, but I didn’t expect it to be discontinued within a year.

It seems that the development of Chugging Regain was already planned for some time after the release of Regain Energy Drink, making the product cycle quite rapid. (´・ω・`)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
